Well I think we have established that most people found it a little daunting to begin with, but that the community generaly welcomes newbies with open arms.

Just a quick comment about vlammetje's post: Your second point is spot on! It really is comical, if a little disturbing, the way certain male members behave in regard to wanting pics, email addresses etc! I think we all know who your talking about

Replying from the first message, to tell you the truth, I was well-established here, but the amount of Newbies I encountered, seeing the same questions, dozens of useless and stupid answers, that just put me off, and I haven't seen Esato for a while.

But why? Why did it put you off?

@meths
Probably for the same reason that it has put other members off. There is a sense, in some quarters, that Esato isn't so much a mobile phone forum, with a general chat area attached to it, anymore; rather it is a general chat forum, with a mobile phone area attached to it.

No I'm afraid you don't, as I am not talking about one specific person, I am talking about group behaviour that was more disturbing than it was comical

Maybe not too many newbies post, but I'm sure there are numerous "lurkers" who benefit from Esato everyday, just like I did for a long time. I often felt that I couldn't add anything substantial to the threads so why post.
As a user of another phone brand (Nokia, what else) I was also hesitant to post lest I be ignored or even ridiculed. But I was able to maximize the use of my Nokias from the knowledge that I gained from Esato. Phones aren't too different from one another anyway: What applied to a T610 applied almost equally to my 7250i. (I'm thinking of J2ME apps.)

@rdny and meths
with regards to this becoming a general forum with a phone forum attached, there are only so many threads that can pop up for each type of phone before we start seeing some repitition. Some people still come here looking for info on the T610 and most older members have moved onto newer more novel phones. It is worth asking old questions in new ways sometimes in order to make those answers visible again to new members.
It is true that after a certain point there are no new tricks to learn on certain phones, and hearing about those over and over can become tedious to some members. Luckily for those people that are easily bored by slightly older phones
keeps releasing new phones and providing us with new things to talk about. There is no need to read every thread though, just skip the ones about the stuff you aren't interested in and jump to the ones about things that you do like.
In the meantime there are plenty of people that still have questions about phones like the T610, T630 or Z600 and they should be able to get an answer without having to search through endless amounts of old threads.
Still, I wish the sticky threads were more visible and more commonly used.

I joined Esato about a month ago. On my part, I hardly encountered such flaming as has been described, but I did run into posts where some newbie was being flamed.
Making new members feel welcome is simple courtesy, and no-one knows everything. I think some of these 'flamers' should learn a little more tolerance for others' ignorance & idiosyncracies.
They also need to develop some self-esteem, as I see a lot of mob action involved by these 'new gods' of Esato.
