I like Paris alot. The UI of G900 is great (see here: http://www.mobile-review.com/review/sonyericsson-g900-en.shtml). With a theme or two made to your liking, itll look superb.

Moreover, Ive been reading up the differences between QVGA and VGA screens. Sure VGA is bigger, and can have around 100 more pixels per inch compared to QVGA screens, there are disadvantages. VGA requires more processing, and as a result, its slower overall. Sure there are processors to handle it, but the sorts of phones with such processors also end up being bricks. Another problem with VGA is that because the screen is larger, it consumes more battery life. Further to this, WM powered solutions with VGA screens cant have more than 65k colours. Now my K700i has 65k colours, and if you put in a theme with a gradient accross the screen, the colour steps look incredibly obvious. On a larger VGA screen, this would be even more ugly to look at.

On the other hand, SE's QVGA screens will be faster, richer in colour (262k colours), consume less battery power, it has the compatibility of many, many apps going for it, and, to be honest with you, you wont be missing out on much. My K700i has around 165 PPI, with a 2.6" QVGA screen having around 153 PPI, so its almost the same level of detail, your eye wont be able to pick up the difference. So between a common 2.6" QVGA screen and a 2.8" or 3.0" VGA screen, you would only notice the difference if you put them next to each other, and looked very closely at the screen. But for most day to day use where your eyes arent 1cm from the screen, you wont even notice.

VGA will come in the future, but it isnt a necessity. However, I take my arguement back once really powerful batteries come out, processors handle the screen with ease and a VGA screen is seen on a different platform to WM, because you can notice the colour difference. I suppose the Iphone already has this, you could say, but then again its just about all the iphone has (excluding, of course, complete incompatibility with just about everything that exists anyway).

So thats that. There are only a few things I really want from Paris at this point in time. The main ones are therefore UIQ 3.3 (so I can have Opera 9.5- which IMHO WILL set it appart from the G900), and the other is a successful camera (fingers crossed for K770i quality, including this fancy photoflash thing that I want). Im slightly concerned for the processing speed, but people seem to say the same processor is being used more efficiently to give much snappier results these days, so why pay more for something you dont need. Only 400 euros Go Paris!

In all this gloom and doom mood, people forget that we will end 2008 with the market full of decent (yet not top class) affordable UIQ devices, at least 4 launched in 2008 (g700, g900, paris, beibei), something that never happened before (before, the maximum number of UIQ launches was 2)

Not only that, there will be at least NINE UIQ 3.x models from SE on the hands of users (plus 2 or more from Moto). Compare that with the number of UIQ devices SE launched before (P800, P900 and P910)...

Tigershark:

Having utilized the samsung camera module, paris will surely perform faster than what it's used to be with other 5mp phones. as i said samsung modules in SE phones does not perform aggressive N-Rs which uses more processing from the CPU. and less N-R means more expressed details albeit leaves a grainy environment and probably noise footprint. but given samsung's history of success on it's implementation on SE 3mp phones and some paris/G900 retail version ("see my previous post for further elaboration") sample pics that showed better image quality than K850. for sure Paris and G900 camera will deliver

You forgot about arima, benq p30(now 6708), motorola A9/A1000 that'll be the reason why UIQ support is deemed stronger than what UIQ is now.

but i agree with you, SE is now trying to make the best out of it's UIQ series. this might help UIQ developer base to expand hence more applications written for the platform

I wonder whether or not the on screen keyboard has been improved on UIQ 3.3. Its about time there was a good one adapted for finger use. Theres no such thing as a useful virtual keyboard which needs to be used with a stylus- it defeats the entire point of what a keyboard is. Hopefully a good Iphoney type app comes along which does the job well.
