this brings up another issue I have with Sony, technically the Z5P screen should be able to do 120Hz since almost everything is rendered at 1080p. If they screen is 4K 60Hz, it should be able to do 120Hz @ 1080p easily. Wish they would do more with the screen, and its also perfect for VR.
This is wrong, the display refresh rate isn't about RAW processing power, it's a hardware design/limitation.. it's mostly a physical limitation on how fast the liquid crystals can twist...
TN panels design allows them to have the fastest response and refresh rate, that's why you can easily see 144Hz and even 200Hz ( and now I think I saw 240Hz )... but TN panels also have poor color accuracy and also not that good viewing angles...
IPS panels have much better color accuracy, very good viewing angles, but it's very hard to get a good response times and high refresh rate from them, most IPS are limited to 60Hz, very few go higher like 72Hz, 90/96Hz... they just started to show faster like 120Hz, and on their way of going to 144Hz.
If a panel is designed to 60Hz, then you can't have it at 120Hz going to lower resolution, it's not matter of how fast the transistors can go ( transistors can go even to MHz/GHz scales easily ), it's the physical design of the panel it self ( the liquid crystals design )... some panels can be overclocked beyond the advertised refresh rate, some 60Hz panels can go to 72Hz and maybe maxes at 90/96Hz... but it will require a very good quality panel to get beyond that.. that's true even for a TN panel, that's why higher refresh rate panels are more expensive... it's like picking the best few panels from thousands of other panels as manufacturing will produce different panels that have different capability.
Exactly the same story as how PC CPU's & GPU's are designed and designated... they produce a lot of processors but some might have defects, so they will disable parts of it ( disable some Cores in the CPU and some Shaders in GPU ) so they will sell it as a lower end part.. or it might have all parts working normally but some might have different characteristic like higher leaks than other so they must limit their clocks in order to stay within the target TDP... only the best parts will be clocked the faster and being sold as the high-end/flagship with higher price... because these are really harder to get from the manufacturing batch..

On a sidenote, what do we know about this year's flagship?
There's been no info from benchmarks, low res images or even from people in the know which I find pleasing as I love a surprise. One thing I hope Sony will include in their next flagship would be the S-Master digital amp to compete with HTC in the audio department. The music on the X is the best I've ever heard on a Sony phone but I know it can be that much better too.

I have wait and always see rumors about S-Master on xperia and it's always just a rumors. I give up my hope for it.
Give a full manual mode for xperia's camera or give it a OIS is sound more possible.
But I also see many people think that if SONY put the full manual on xperia they will be unable to sell their compact camera. I think that logic is ridiculous -_-

Well I think the Xperia X performance is a great phone in general, only downside is battery, camera and price.
With regards to Xperia Z5 Premium successor, I hope it has the following features:
Hardware part:
- SD 821/3 (if its real) with 6 GB RAM
- 64 GB internal memory (UFS 2.0 comparable speed)
- USB Type C v1.0 support for USB 3.1 speeds
- 4K Screen with same quality as X Performance's or better
- 3600 mah battery
- DAC and S-Master (or just find away to increase the volume when listening through headphone jack (Same quality as X performance)
Design:
- Similar design to Xperia X Performance but with thinner bezel side and overall thinner body
~ (154 mm x 74 mm x 7.7)
Front and back camera:
- OIS + EIS
- 4k @ 30 fps with stabilization
- Better manual mode (RAW mode support, white balance levels in kelvin, more ISO levels 50 - 12800 for any resolution)
- better auto settings (long exposure must be partnered with low ISO, full ISO levels for 23 mpx resolution)
- fix overheating problem and improve stability of camera app
- better resolved details, noise handling, hdr and improve quality of photos taken in low lightning (fix overexposing pictures)
- LED light for front cam (just wishful thinking)
To be honest, there's not much to features nowadays that would add much impact to any device for that matter. We have reached a time when people are looking for stable devices rather than ground breaking ones as smartphones have long become an important everyday tool for everybody. Even the rumored Samsung Galaxy Note 7 does not have that much ground breaking features except for Iris Scanner. But Lumia 950 XL had that feature first and has been in the market since end of last year. Samsung's focus seems to be in refining the features that the Galaxy line already have. And I think Sony should do the same. Now it's all about which smartphones provides the greatest experience: experience meaning smooth software, great design, long battery life and great camera! I'm really hoping that Sony's year-end flagship would be the "Messiah Device" that Sony fans are waiting for.

In terms of design I'd love Sony to pay homage to the Arc S in it's 5th year anniversary. Rather than the high gloss plastic though I'd go all out one piece aluminium shell, minimal side bezel like the XA and loose the black border at the top too, also have the stereo speakers from the X but with a curve to the speaker holes to mimic the "arc" of the device (where the physical buttons are) add a fingerprint scanner on the side too and I think we'll have the best looking phone on the planet. Give us a full size flagship and a compact version too and I'd be all over it.
PS, Anyone any good at PhotoShop to see what that would look like?
God the Arc S was a good looking phone

^^^ It was a legendary design, sadly as a phone Sony quickly forgot about updating it, Arc was followed by Arc S and the original Arc lost it's glory... then Arc S was followed by S and also Sony forgot about it...
Returning on the topic, I don't think that design will be able to hold a side mounted fingerprint scanner in a practical position... behind the screen scanners will be the way to go...
Seeing the hardware navigation keys reminded me of something...
I still didn't own any phone with on screen navigation keys, my current phone is HTC 10 were they returned to separate touch keys after having onscreen ones in M8 & M9, that was duo to the inclusion of the front fingerprint scanner..
using other on-screen nav. keys makes it a little bit weird, I think I still prefer something dedicated rather than on-screen. I know Sony moved to that long time ago... but on-screen nav. keys will make you lose some screen real-estate compared to hardware ones...
What do you guys think of a very close to the screen AMOLED screen bar below, which can act as the hardware key platform and also some second screen feature ? I know it will make the phone taller, but Sony can integrate a lot of features on that screen other than navigation keys, like an always on notification screen with basic functions on just simple gestures like Google now, music control, camera quick access ( and camera control also, leaving the whole screen for the picture or video taken ), gallery navigation, etc...

On screen keys are not visible when it most matters. They are there for the menus and such but for viewing media and playing games they all but disappear (or are overlaid) when they are needed. Hard keys do add to the length of the phone given the same screen size.
The thing with hard keys is that unless they have a good quality coating, when they become scratched or the paint starts peeling off they can look bloody awful. Especially for power users.
I'm a fan of neither one or the other but sort of prefer on-screen keys as there simply is less to go wrong.

Arc's design is not that functional at all and I am glad Sony has abandoned it. It does not fit in todays designs as manufacturers try to fit as many features as possible without making phones too chunky. The monoblock or candy bar design is the way to go. I hope Sony just continue to improve the boxy design on their phones since Xperia Z.

I have to agree!
The device was CHEAP to the feel of glossy plastic! You have to agree over 80% of Sony's products are quality builds and of premium design and materials (Speakers, TVs, Playstation, home theatre, cameras/video camera's)!
You want an ICONIC and real quality design ... you have to the look at the X series ... the OG X1!
THAT was a premium product:
Metal, Brushed metal now being re-ushered into the X series lineup!
a REAL functional use of an arc design "Arc-Slider" form fit function and enhanced the design for a fast typing in a smartphone in the era where keyboards where supreme. Yes I know HTC built it for SE but it was SE that designed everything.
X1 looked like a pocketable computer which is what EVERYONE in that hey day wanted! It presented more than just selling something shiny with no substance. I owned the Arc for 1 month and got rid of it ... the X1 I held and typed for an hour own - not 1 BlackBerry since and including of the 7270 could ever come close (and I used them ALL since!)
Next month I'm on the fence ... iPhone 6S or X Performance.

I do believe XperiaJunkie said he wants the Xperia Arc design with premium materials, not plastic.
The Arc design would certaily set it apart from competition, and they can always put the Finger Print Scanner at the back or on a hard home button on the front.
