@ brix, yep, dont think we will be seeing the Wii here anytime, and if so it will be like the game cube, rather rare. i quite liked the cube, jim got one in the uk on holiday and it was a worthy toy, but lets face it, nothing new. the wii is different, not the standard gaming, so yeah, a totally new market that will surely overlap. like that freak who went out to buy the Wii and the PS3...

...on their different launch dates, just to smash them up in front of the crowd waiting to buy these machines. they bought two of each every time to auction the one off on e-bay or something, but yeah. that was just stupid.

On the memory stick pro duo thing, you can get 4 gb, think there is 8gb(was mentioned it will be 2x the price of ps3!) and theoretically can go up to 32gb. not too sure.

@Hobbs: Are you serious about getting such a massive memory stick? Just remember that it's quite likely that your phone will be running quite slow.

@HOBBS: Check out bidorbuy.co.za. 2gb memory stick pro duo should be around R400. Well worth it. The prices at stores are a rip off!

@Kryptik bro, check out the reply I posted in the thread you mentioned. I came across a link that I thought you might find to be informative.

Thanx boet, it has certainly proved to be quite informative. IMO some type of relationship between Esato and SE might not be a bad idea, even if only for the sake of discounts to members, for example.

@ hobbs, some more info. The Memory Stick Pro (Which includes the Pro Duo) has a, and I quote : "maximum theoretical capacity of 32 GB". I got mine on Bid or Buy months ago, and still very pleased with it. Just checked on Bid or Buy and you can get the 2Gb for as low as R250, but an average of R300. I usually buy according to seller reputation. Will pay R50 more if the guy has a good and long reputation rather than some cheaper stranger.

And oh, they seem to have 4Gb cards for about R600, which is not bad.

Okay, now about the practical application of the card, the advantages and the disadvantages. I got a ton of pictures on, 1000's of pictures, and it does slow down the phone.
If i take out my Pro Duo before starting the phone it will switch on in less than 30 seconds. With the memory card in it takes 3 minutes and more. Now if I remove all the pictures it will go faster. As far as I know it is the number of files on the card that affects it's performance, not the space used.

Now with the W900i, when I encode video files for my phone I can actually make them higher quality, and have longer stretches of video on. With the phone-only memory I could put a movie on,l but would have to split it in 10-15 minute sections, else Audio/Video would go badly out of sync. With the Pro Duo I can have up to 60 minutes of video before this happens. Big difference there. This means I can have a whole bunch of episodes of House or Battlestar Galactica on my Phone and it would take 1 file per one episode, instead of 3-4 files. Splitting up videos is not fun, it gets messy.

A little tip/trick with the W900i is to put your video files in your "Drive:\\MSSEMC\\Media files\\audio\\Music\\Video" folder, which means that when you make a playlist you can get to your video files. I always add my video files, or the ones that are longer than a few minutes to there, because if someone phones me in the middle of a episode of House or a movie I just go back to my walkman player, click on play, and it continues from where it was. For some reason this never worked without the memory card, and lots of people have tried this without success. So imagine having to sometimes forward 12-14 minutes to get to where you were before someone phoned you just to find you were at the end of that bit of video anyways...hehe!

I will do tests today with the size vs. lots of files thing and let you guys know what the results are. But one thing maybe worth mentioning, I find often that I run out of space on my phone and/or memory card. I have lots of various stuff I like keeping on, and am just too picky to stick to a couple of songs/albums/videos.

Okay, got a result:

I had 5 files on my memory card, each an episode of 24, but not in a format that my phone could play. These files are 380 or so in size each, thus just about filling up my memory completely.

The startup time for the phone with an empty card was just about the same as a full card filled with few big files.

So it is as I logically assumed. Many files will make a memory card start up wonderfully slow where few bigger files will not give that issue.

Now the 3 minute start-up was with about 5000 files on the memory card, including a friends psp saved games, uninstalled games, video recordings, books cut into chapters. I am backing up all my shizer on this phone, and keeping the card cleaner. I don't think that 100-500 MP3's will seriously impair a phones speed as a combination of 100's of pictures and mp3's and all little bits and pieces.

CAN SOMEONE TELL. ME WHAT THE DIFFERENCE IS BETWEEN A MEMORY STICK DUO AND A MEMORY STICK PRO DUO?

Basically the former goes up to 128MEG while the latter can go anywhere up to 2Gig- the last time I heard.
@francois: Doubt anyone will be buying both the 3rd generation consoles. Personally I like the look of all of them...I'm a current PS2 owner and I've never had any issues with it.
From the look of things we won't be getting the Wii anytime soon since the local distributor seemingly went belly-up
