just read this in 'mobile news'. it's depressingly familiar unfortunately.
Sony Ericsson's second wave?
Strange that Sony Ericsson hasn't shown any new products to replace its current stock. The P800 has been 'in development' for the whole of 2002. The T68 is now over a year old and looking tired. The only significant phone launch this year was the T300, and that is so ugly that many people won't care if it has great games and ringtones.
With the ITU Telecom Asia exhibition now on in Hong Kong, I've been keeping a watchful eye open for news of any new phones. I found nothing before going to press. But I did manage to dig around a bit to find a couple of new products, including a new phone destined for the US.
The new T608 isn't a GSM phone, but it does give a hint as to what might be on the horizon for a T68 successor. The T608 (like the T600 and T66 before it) is tiny, like a box of matches. If anything, this runs the risk of being TOO small.
Nevertheless, Sony Ericsson has given the T608 colour, Bluetooth and Java. This makes it the smallest colour phone on the market, certainly the smallest with so many features.
The other new phone is the A1101S. This is a colour-screen clam-shell phone that looks very much like it has come from the Sony side of the joint venture. I hope that this doesn't mean it ends up like the Z700, which was axed before release.
Sony Ericsson also needs to get its operating costs down to make money. After outsourcing production, Sony Ericsson has reduced costs - but at a price. The accountants obviously didn't take into account things like repairs and reliability. An official service centre in London says new phones are virtually irreparable because of the "throwaway nature" of the latest circuit boards.
In most cases, a phone with anything more than a simple fault must be junked and replaced, and servicing this must cost Sony Ericsson a fortune. Once the phone is outside the warranty, users who need a repair find the cost is so high that it's better to just chuck it away. What are the chances of this person then buying another phone from Sony Ericsson?

from that report it sounds like sonyericsson are destined to fail, but they might be working on a group of phones that will be lanched at cebit this year and that will turn the mobile world on its head? here's hoping
