Detailed review on Russian. Verdict: very good, almost perfect phone.
cons: pretty big bezel and viewing angles. screen only 600:1 contrast. Who told about 1200-1500:1 here?
But reviewer like z1 screen.

The viewing angles are spot on and the screen is easily the best I have seen in a Sony handset. It is up there with the HTC One and Galaxy S4 and when you watch fast paced videos it is even better there is no motion blur or ghosting what so ever unlike the S4. The Xperia Z1 gets a massive thumbs up in my opinion there is no phone out there which is such a complete unit in terms of camera and video caputure, audio quality, screen quality and build quality nothing gets close.

So that does confirm our speculation that it is a case of different screens on the protos at IFA. Most videos of the Z1 show a brilliant display with good viewing angles, only a few sites have mentioned poor viewing angles.

I suspect the Z1 used in that Russian review is a prototype unit since it has a SHARP panel same as the Xperia Z. AFAIK Sony does not use Sharp panel in retail Z1.

It is a display lottery. Some are excellent and some are average. XperiaJunkie has a phone with the very good display and Ambroos has one with the average display. The average display is still better than the Z/ZL display.
The display on my ZL has poor viewing angles but almost every time I show a picture to someone they compliment on the display quality. 99% of people do not care about viewing angles.

So is it confirmed that the retail Z1 will have a stunning display like the Z Ultra's? The camera is no doubt imo the best you can get in a smartphone, minus the 808. Also some sites state it will launch with Android 4.3 and there will be a 32GB version available also...
