I need some help please - I have just bought a new LCD TV and am trying to get my head around the whole HD thing and it is driving me nuts.
So my LCD TV is a Samsung LE40R87BDX - which has a resolution of 1366 x 768 making it 720p (correct?). So my TV will look it's absolute best if supplied with a 720p signal - look good but not quite as good with a 1080i or 1080p signal (as my tv will have to down-scale the image) and look ok with any form of SD (standard definition) signal. If I have made mistakes already then please do correct me!
Now my xbox 360 doesn't have a HDMI output it only has composite (or the aditional VGA lead that can be purchased) so what quality / resolution does the 360 give out? Is there any point getting the 360 HD DVD drive if I can't get a proper HD signal to the TV due to the lack of connection options (I am not forking out for a 360 elite just 6 months after getting my xbox - damn you microsoft) Or have I got it all wrong entirely and the signal transmitted through component or VGA leads is as good / only marginaly poorer than those through a HD lead ?!?!
Please help - very confused! (and this is without going into HDMI 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.3a etc etc)
Thanks,
Tom

Ok lets clear one thing firstly is that you actually have component not composite (composite is cra*) so you have the red green and blue, this can transfer HD content up to 1080i. I wouldnt worry to much about the HD-DVD drive as you TV is only 720P so if you hoping for the 1080p goodness that comes with the dvd's they will be downscaled to 720 (it will also show with a black border on top and bottom)
So personally just stick with the 720p personally its much better than 1080i in my opinion (google progressive scan vs interlaced).
With regards to the VGA leads some people have reported washed out colours again personal taste but it all boils down to your tv so I wouldnt stress to much (even if you had the HDMI version you would only be seeing 720P.
P.s you might want to invest in a receiver Yamaha is a good choice, get one with HDMI out and you can plug all your gear in and just have one cable going in to the tv.

Game of the Year for Call of Duty 4! Halo 3 was something, but COD4 has taken the crown - single player offline mode.
Just completed it, took a while as i was playing on Hardened - some stages were insanely difficult though!
Time to go online:
"LETS DO THIS!"
