this is my rendition of hikaru. as you can see, the design philosophy is hugely inspired by the P990.

looks like the perfect P series phone to me. Only in our dreams.
Do you imagine any specs??
I think SE should ask for your design to make it true...

Hi all, I haven't posted here for a very long time, but I think I've just about finished a concept I've been working on for quite a while now. It's a Xperia convergence device running UIQ (the variant of UIQ is unspecified, so assume large display sizes are possible). Specs are on the high end of the scale. But aside from that, this concept stands out for having 3 different slide modes. The first is the top slide directly on top of the bottom slide. The Second is the top slide moved to the left to reveal a landscape QWERTY keyboard (same as on X1). But, slide it to the right, and this opens up a PSP-ish set of controls for dedicated gaming. This landscape dual-slider uses an arc-slider mechanism to improve viewing angle. The aim of this additional functionality is to seamlessly combine business and entertainment in one device. I suppose this could be the Xperia X10.
The device, with stylus out, and screen off.
Right-hand side view
Landscape picture viewing mode
The arc-slider mechanism
Slide left: reveals the QWERTY keyboard
Slide right: reveals gaming and entertainment controls (similar to PSP controls)
3D view: video playback
Back view
I don't really want to say too much about specs because in my opinion that doesn't have much to do with the physical design of the product.
But this would have a 3" VGA or WVGA touchscreen, quadband GSM, WLAN b/g, HSDPA/HSUPA, aGPS, an accelerometer, a 5.0 Mpx camera with Xenon flash, a frontal VGA camera, QWERTY keyboard, at least 8Gb internal memory (with M2 slot), it would feature Opera 9.5 for web browsing, flash lite 3, document editing capabilites and the all important gaming functionality. I would envisage this being a flagship device in the future, so I suppose specs which are something along those lines would sound more or less reasonable.

Very nice, Tigershark! Awesome concept!
One thing though - shouldn't the QWERTY be on the opposite side?

Thanks very much! Hehe I suppose it could be, my personal preference would be to have it the way it is (the keyboard opens the same way as the HTC Tytn II, and that wasn't unsuccessful), but maybe that's because I'm left handed. At any rate, I don't think it matters much which controls are on which side. Either way, you can still use both the touchscreen and the d-pad, and either thumb can operate either with fair ease.
