Just to confirm no one has crossed wires here you can shoot at 20MP in manual mode but your options for manual controls are very limited when compared to 8MP as in 8 MP mode you get to chose the scene, set the white balance, HDR on/off, ISO upto 3200, face and smile detection.

in 20MP mode you get white balance, HDR, on/off iso upto 800, face and smile detection but no scene selection.

Hope this clears a few thing up for you guys.

interesting!

though, if you're in full manual and can control WB, HDR, ISO, EV and flash, do you really need to be able to select a scene? It kind of defeats the purpose of full manual doesn't it?

Once again, I'm happy with just 8Mp as long as I can play with manual settings.

ISO800 makes sense to me, since Z1's sensor can't do miracles and shoot usable pictures on anything higher than that setting anyway.

And PS: Z1's manual mode isn't really manual, manual mode on digital cameras lets you set Aperture, Shutter speed, ISO and manually calibrate WB, save for the flash EV/sync which is useless on an LED flash equipped device anyway. face detection, HDR just doesn't belong there. I'd rather say Z1's "manual" mode is more like a Program mode on enthusiast cameras/DSLRs

Heh but in 20mpx you can also choose the Zoom type right? Like infinite, automatic 1 point, etc?

the proper term is focus point/metering.

Yes good news metering is there in both 8 and 20MP manual mode.
