Why one phone can't handle both with GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and UMTS?

You have to choose a phone with GSM 850/900/1800/1900 or a phone with GSM 900/1800/1900 + UMTS. It would be nice to have "five in one".

Everyone seems to have their own criteria for what a "smartphone" really is - for me, it's not just about the OS or expandability, but the form factor too. The P series phones, with their big touchscreens and pen input, will always be "smarter" than a candy bar phone in my book, because they allow easier and faster data entry and data manipulation. For instance sketching something down, jotting a note, selecting a cell in a spreadsheet - all so much easier and quicker. For genuine business and productivity applications on the move, you need something more than a joystick and predictive text, and that's why things like Series 60 have never impressed me.

Having had the P800 for the last couple of years I need a change, so I'll be upgrading to the P910 in the next couple of weeks rather than waiting for the P990 - but I'm still looking forward to getting one in a year or so when they're cheap.

my opinion, not too fussed, at the end of the day it is better than the p910 and will still be the king.

i suppose it could have 3mp and i really would like the screen to be fullsize but we will always want more.

well done se.

Quote:1) (Thats right kids, it's a business phone, and SE care more about how many units IBM will buy than you)

I suspect they will have obtained a lot of feedback from corporates, either direct or through the operators who sell these devices to them. I guess they will all be asking for something very much like the P990, so here it is. The camera is always an issue though. Operators want cameras; many corporates don't. The camera won!!

Quote:3) Wi-Fi!!! It's not 802.11G? OH MY GOD GO KILL THE DESIGNERS NOW!! Who cares, no one will notice and if your transferring files that fat, get a USB cable.

True. I will use it for browsing the web, and I've 'only' got a 8Mbit connection at home!! 802.11b will do me just fine!

Quote:4) The differences between 2 & 3 are negligable and this 2Mp will undoubtably be better than the K750s (Which rules TBH)

If you're printing out at 6x4 inches then there certainly is little difference. For anything above then 3 (or more) is better. I am sure if the components were available, at the right price, and without adding to the bulk of the phone, they would have done. However, I think they'll (for marketing reasons) want to save 3 megapixels or higher for new products to be announced at, or near, 3GSM next year.

Quote:5) Memory sticks - they don't put a big pne in the box because . . . . . . . THEY WANT YOU TO BUY ANOTHER ONE YOU IDIOTS!!!!

Unless they bundled a 1 or 2GB card, any card supplied with it would be removed by me almost immediately. They've supplied a card for marketing reasons, possibly to bundle some shareware apps/demos or content (some music, video etc).

Quote:6) 80 Mb is enough for any internal files, if you need more, you have obsessive compulsive disorder, uninstall some shit fs.

UIQ is certainly less memory hungry than Microsoft devices. I think it will be just fine. I always install apps on the memory card where possible, as it makes it easier to move stuff from device to device.

What Nokia has is already known. N90 and N91. N91 will not be released until Christmas. Nokias next devices will probably be announced at beginning of next year and released Q2/Q3 (June-Aug) i.e. after P990.

That's my prediction.

perhaps one of the things people are missing here is this isnt really a mass market phone.
its for a very small niche in the market a niche which the p800 really invented a pda phone.
so some of the things people are complaining about arent really that realvent since it wasnt designed for people who want a decent camera phone etc.
as for memory sticks show me any company that bundles large sticks for free none do they are all built into the price so the bigger stick the more they wil expect you to pay.
i bet that most of these phones are bought by businesses in which case they can go out and buy a larger memory card if the business needs dictate it.
as for its looks well there subjective some will look it some will hate it. i think it looks like crap but then my opinon doesnt really matter as i dont need a phone like this so wouldnt have a need to buy one.

@Indiandawg

Sorry to dissapoint you, but statistics clearely states that world wide, Symbian is increasing its market share (to 50% at end of 2004), Microsoft makes no progress (stays still at 20% at end of 2004) and PalmOs is decreasing (to 17% at end of 2004). That is, in the mobile phone market (not PDA market).

But dreams can come truth. So keep on dreaming.
