Probably not. lack of software, especially since previous P9xx is incompatible without recompilation ( and probably more code changes).
I'll go with Nokia E61 - Series 60 and plenty of software.
I currently have a P900 - I do not like the lack of software, although it is a good phone.

Dont be so sure Stella01; with Symbian OS 9.1 existing apps will have difficulty running properly if at all. The resolution alone will be a factor & if your not experienced at tweaking non-performing apps on a N90 then you'll be waiting for updated apps like the rest of us.

did u say lack of software for the p900 ? there are TONS of apps for the entire P series
P990 on the other hand. none of the previous programs will work, the p990 is not backward compatible, but, with the announcment out now, there is plenty of time for programs to be created, im sure there will be lots out by the time it is launched,
I just got my p910i, love it, and dont regret getting it, i think its actually good timing, cause by the time my contract runs out, the p990 wil be free to upgrade to. i doubt that it will be free on average contracts straight away. besides, it gives enough time to shop around, causae im sure more smartphones with similar functions will be out to compete.

I bought the P910i a few weeks ago to try, and so far I'm happy. Therefore I'm very likely to get the P990 as soon as it becomes available - whether I buy it sim free or branded on a contract will be more of an issue.
I think it's highly unlikely any major rivals will be launched in the meantime. I've given Windows Mobile a try last year, and there's no chance I'll be making that mistake again.
There are a few minor issues I have with the P910i in terms of ease of use, so I'm hoping the P990 will have improved on some of those.

Resolution is not a factor if applications use scalable UI. Applications use scalable graphics (SVG) and thus are able to scale to whatever screen resolution or orientation. The thing with the N90 is that those "old" applications don't implement the scalable UI and thus N90 run those applications in so called legacy mode, meaning it makes each pixel in the "old" application quadruple. And as you said, those "old" applications will not run on devices based on Symbian OS v9.x anyway, so screen resolution/orientation it's not a problem.
