Hi all
Well OK it's confirmed that it has HSDPA but something doesn't make sense as the claim of 2.8 faster then EDGE is a severely cut down HSDPA speeds.
Please some one correct me if I'm wrong but isn't EDGE slower than 3G and 3G is 384kbps and i believe EDGE is 280kbps odd well 2.8x faster then 280kbps is well bellow even 1mbps. Even basic HSDPA is up to 3.6mbps and a lot devices are now coming equipped to support up to 7.2mbps as the networks are rolling out support for this.
So what is happening with the 3G iPhones HSDPA support then? as i for one am confused.
Marc
I don't get why it's so confusing.
HSDPA is often quoted at 3.6Mbps but in reality you get 800-1400 kbps. 280 kbps x 2.4 is pretty close to that.
By the way, Telstra Australia claim they'll have the worlds fastest iPhone by Xmas when they ramp up thier network to 40+ Mbps. That may only mean reaching the 3.6Mbps peak, if that is the peak speed. I'm getting 1180kbps ATM, the full 3600 would be great!

I have had an O2 contract for about 13 or 14 months. Didn't fancy the first iPhone because of price but love this. Want to upgrade but anyone know if I can in July. I enquired about this with the last iPhone and they said I could upgrade and break out of my contract as long as I had started a contract before last september. From the o2 website it just says they will give me a call when I can upgrade. Is this July or October or whenever my contract is up

Nice to see Apple are making the iPhone what it should have been in the first place. Would consider it if they had improved the camera, which I use on my phones quite abit. Price is very tempting from O2 (free on a £45 tariff).

I've just been reading
the iPhone blog and it seems you no longer get the dock in the box.
Do any people use that? mine is still sitting pretty in the box, as is the a/c charger as I always charge via USB
apparantly the photos are now better, albeit still 2megapixel, according to some people who had hands-on

I use mine all the time, think it is tidier in the dock on my desk. I just hope o2 don't run out of stock as i'll be out of the country when it is released.

@Carkitter
Well i get between 1900 and 2,200kbps here in the UK on Voda and the iPhone is about half the speed i am used to. But more worrying is the fact that 02 don't have great data support and your lucky to get 384kbps currently. Hopefully they are implementing HSDPA fast so that there iPhone users can take advantage of the better speeds. Anyway it's not something i need to worry about as the iPhone is just not a device for me.
