replied to my enquiry about R8:

Thank you for contacting the Sony Ericsson Customer Care Centre.

Regarding your enquiry, the new firmware improves the performance of the handset. Unfortunately we have no local service centers in your area so you will have to send the handset directly to a company called Celestica. The relevant details are found below:

Celestica (Telford) Ltd.,
PO Box 80,
Oakengates,
Telford,
Shropshire.
TF2 9WT.

Telephone number: 01952 230 402
Fax Number: 01952 237 278
E-mail: EndUser@celestica.com

The handset should be adequately packaged and sent special delivery. Please remove SIM card. The following documentation should be sent with the handset: your name and contact details, contact number and e-mail address if available. Please take note of the handset model and the IMEI number prior to sending the unit to Celestica. Please send a copy of proof of purchase. The turnaround time is 10 working days from receipt of the handset at Celestica.

Your firmware will be upgraded under the terms of your product warranty:

Please contact the Sony Ericsson Customer Care Centre again if we can assist you further.

10 working days turnaround Is it worth going to CPW instead or should I not risk a non-authorised dealer trying to upgrade my phone ?

Please someone help me with the colours of my screen! What do you think cause them to change?I don't want to send it to a service point! Also, the display is ok,doesn't have any problem! So if it is something wrong with the firmware will be corrected? This message was posted from a T68i

Just find your nearest CPW service centre and go for a road trip! 10 days sounds resonable taking into account delivery e.t.c. Would likely take a lot less time than that.

I phones up the CPW in Pool today, (my local centre, guildford, never answers the phone), and they told me that the latest firmware version was R5!!!! I dont think they appreciated me telling them that I had R7 put on about a month ago!

Regards,

Phil.

RE: R8a firmware

Surprised that everyone is focusing on games. Could someone with r8a please let me know if r8a has changed:

- the Power Off via pressing the NO button for 5-10 seconds, even with keylock on (this godforsaken "feature" inevitably turns off the phone when in my back pocket)

- the SMS alert tone issue. Also, if I have keylock on, can I get to voicemail faster than by (1) turning keylock off, (2) clearing the SMS Alert dialog box, (3) clearing the "missed call" dialog box, and (4) dialing VM.

... these, for me are two of the biggest bummers of the t68i that hadn't been addressed thru r7a firmware.

Does anybody know: does SE pay for the firmware uprade (during guarantee period) to certified Service Centers or not?
And one more question: Our Certified SE SC "Dixis" requires that we should show them some explicit repeatable bug in the phone in order to get free firmware update? Are this SE rules?

Yep, CPW is indeed upgrading with R8 and the UK version does include the 4 new games.
