not only that... those of us who bought early and have low week numbered units will have more trouble selling them on the second hand market, even if we have had the hiss fixed. No compensation from SE for that either!

But... I am a realist and I guess thats life!

Well ive always noticed when i try to sell my SE phone, its like i hardly get any value for it. They dont have a good resale value, thats atleast what i have faced and the price of SE phones also crash a lot over time. I remember my T68i, costs half now, of what i bought it 1 year back!!!... well maybe thats a part of life.

But not buying a new phone and it being lying in the service center for 2-3 weeks, i can never tolerate that. When i had the hissing T610, and it had to be replaced for a non hissing one, i was told to wait 2-3 weeks, for a phone i bought 3-4 days back. The worst part was when i gave it to them to fix the hissing, they even crashed the phone, so couldnt even have the pleasure of using a hissing phone i bought only 3 days ago!

Hi Migueltan,
I had the firmware upgrade last week and the phone now works fine with my HBH60 and my girlfriends HBH30. I'd reconmend the firmware upgrade

The firmware upgrade on the T610 seems to be a bit hit and miss from what I can gather on here. I had my firmware upgraded on my T610, and still have the crackling noise through my HBH-30 Headset, AND it still keeps dropping calls. Both units are now with for further investigation. Lets hope they don't keep my phone and headset as long as Celestica did (3 1/2 weeks!!)

@OnezOne You don't have much luck with phones do ya mate!

Hey Marley, I think you are right, I had mine urgraded to RIL and there are some improvements. At times the call are clear i.e. when I receive call, but the funny thing is that when the calls are made from the phone the crackling reappears. I think this mobile phone needs some major servicing from SE.

Problem solved? - well sort of!

Just got around to testing my latest HBH-30 with my T610 and it seems that the BT crackle problem is now solved! So thought I'd share the details...

Originally I had a T610 with R1A081 and an early HBH-30 - this crackled so much you couldn't hear the other person at all! I sent the headset back and whilst waiting for a new one to arrive, I also upgraded the T610 to R1L013. The crackle problem now seems to have been solved - it is completely usable both making and recieving calls (someone earlier said their's was fine for one but crackled with the other).

However, the person at the other end still gets an annoying echo of their own voice, delayed by half a second or so. I sound fine to them and I hear no echo my end on the handsfree. I did a bit of investigating and found that this is due to the physical design of the HBH-30, NOT anything to do with BT. It seems that it only echos if you have the volume turned up to anything other than the very quietest settings. The sound must travel through the earpiece down to the microphone so that the voice of the person calling you is transmitted back to them - hence the echo. If you turn the sound right down, they don't hear an echo (but it's too damn quiet for you to hear what they're saying!).

I would have thought that there would have been a clever electronic filter built in (or at least some better sound proofing!) to prevent this sort of feedback - but obviously not! Thanks SE!

So the answer seems to be to get a fairly newish headset and get your T610 firmware upgraded to the latest. You'll get rid of the crackle but still be left with a echo'y, call dropping, piss poor SE BT headset. Me - well I'm sending the BT headset back for a full refund and getting me a nice wired headset instead

Hope this sheds some light on the matter...

P.S. The firmware on my HBH-30 is R3B. You can find this out by connecting to the BT headset, then going to CONNECTIVITY > ACCESSORIES > HBH. It would be interesting too see if the HBH firmware version makes any difference to the problem. Perhaps we could all post our HBH and T610 firmware version, and say whether they work or not? I'll start:

T610: R1L013
HBH-30: R3B
Crackle?: No
Echo?: Yes
Drops calls?: No

Update: Regarding the echo.

For a laugh, I thought I'd just give SE another call to see what they have to say about the echo. Not suprisingly, "this is not a known fault!". She said that the microphones on the HBH-30 and HBH-60 are very sensitive, but has just bought out another headset (HBH-35) which has a less sensitive microphone. May be this would solve the problem?

She said I could send in it in under warranty to be checked out though - may be not hey!

Just out of interest, I tried the headset with a P800. Guess what? No hiss, no crackle and definately no echo - not even at the highest volume settings. Go figure!

Bye bye BT headset - back to the shop you go

I have just upgraded T610 to software version R1L013 today. Crackle noise & Echoes disappear when use together with HBH-30 and HBH-60.

These crackle noise and echo only happen to new handset and handsfree. I never have any of these problems using T68 and HBH-10 or T610 and HBH-10
