From P900 White Paper, page 54:

Memory Stick Duo starts at 8 MB and has a roadmap,
which foresees sizes up to 1Gbyte in the future. A 32 MB Memory Stick Duo is supplied with the P900 and
sizes up to 128 MB are supported.

Now go figure

Has Sony Ericsson lost the plot????? I read the whitepaper and what are they banging on about, are they saying that they are forseeing duo at 1GB in the future, what about hardware restrictions i thought 128MB was max "sizes up to 128MB are supported" they must be talking about the pro duo which is not compatible with the phone so why bother saying it on the paper! SE need to sort out what they are trying to say. Seen as i've just bought a 128 card duo i wanna know what exactly they are trying to imply, why bother telling us that duo goes up to 1GB when the duo pro are not compatible with the P900.

i hope this gets cleared up soon.

I dont think you are understanding what SE is writing. SE cannot legally state in the white paper that the device can support up to 1GB because those sticks don't exist yet and its not 100% that they will. They state that the device can support 128mb because thats the maximum. By writing all that stuff about foreseeable sizes, it means that yes there will be memory stick duo's (not pro's) that will be larger than 128mb and yes the device will support them. but by writing it the way they did they are not binding themselves to that statement.

The only problem with that being is that sony have already stated that the standard duo memory sticks cannot exceed a memory of 128MB because of hardware limitations, there is no way of increasing the size of the memory, the only thing i can see them producing is a select function for different banks as is apparent in the normal memory sticks. According to memory stick duo wont go over 128mb thats why the pro duo using a different interface can have such a larger amount of storage.

I knew I was right (the P900 would most probably not be able to use PROs). Well I guess it also needs a software upgrade just like the P800 after all. If it was able to accommodate the PRO then the specs at http://www.sonyericsson.com/p900/ would state that it is compatible with MS DUO and MS DUO pros. But it only says MS DUO, so to be safe, it seems that it's maximum is still 128MB.

I have a 64MB stick filled with 20+ OGG songs and I can't even play all of them consecutively most of the time. It's either i get bored or the battey dies on me. Imagine 1G of songs... You guys complain about battey life?... It's probably because of excessive listening to mp3s and watching of movies.

Just my thoughts.

I have just receive my 128mb duo and I am sure the battery on my P800 dies sooner now, so I am sure a 256mb or so pro duo could make your mobile a half day in use maximum.

Sorry if my question is stupid:
1. Why would a higher capacity of the Memory Stick Duo installed would affect the battery life? Is it because there are more files that we can open? But what if i have a 8Mb Memory Stick Duo that contain 1 mp3 song and play it over and over again? would the battery life be the same as the phone with a higher memory capacity?

2. What about the french review: http://www.pdafrance.com/articles/article.php?cat=testssmartphone&id=312&p=1 which says that the P900 supports MSDuo Pro?

3. (off-topic) a well respected site, http://my-symbian.com/uiq/intro_p900.php , says that the P900 has a CPU clock speed of 156 MHz which is the same as the P800. On the other hand, The Resister, http://www.theregister.co.uk/content/68/33491.html , claims clearly that the P900 has a faster processor as compared to the P800, moreover, in this thread: http://www.esato.com/board/viewtopic.php?topic=40757&forum=35#, randomyachtie said that in P900 website, it states that "The P900 is geared up with two powerful processors". I can understand that some phone uses 2 processors, one for the PDA and one for calling, however, i am also aware that the processor used to make phone calls are considered quite slow. But now claims that P900 has TWO POWERFUL processors. Which one is true?

The P800 does NOT support Memory Stick Pro (which currently goes up to 1 Gigabyte), it only Supports the standard Memory Stick format which can only go up to 128 megabytes. This is the same for the P900 which also only supports Memory Stick.

The DUO is simply the formsize of the Memory Stick (being smaller, DUO cards can fit onto standard Memory Stick slots through the use of an adapter). DUO has nothing to do with the actual internal format or architecture of the memory Stick.

FYI: MemoryGate is simply a Memory Stick or memory Stick Pro format with extra code encryption to play copyrighted music files that Sony uses for some of their media files.

what about the reports in The Register and that french site, on a faster CPU and MS DUO PRO support respectively. Shall i deem them unreliable sources? Apparently the french site got hold of the P900 and tested it with MS DUO PRO and it works, according to them.

Yet, we see another site: http://www.mobileburn.com/review.jsp?Id=510 by Mobileburn, claiming that it has a faster CPU.
