@HOBBS: But you obviously know that looks alone does not make a product great. I predict that those getting the phone at the end of this month in the US will not be to familiar with Java applications. Or they are serious Mac fiends who are willing to part with the convenience of Java for a scaled down version of OS X. Me I want a phone with at least J2ME, UIQ or S60 would be a bonus.
Anyone in Cape Town capture some nice pics of last night's thunder storm across the city? I need to get a digital camera for these moments.
@da krypsta: Were also you striking today?

@HOBBS: I'm a bit ambiguous about the iPhone, love the design and sheer balls of Steve Jobs and the folks at Apple to release a phone.
But someone in an isolated(from hype) part of my head I fear the iPhone will end up being another
Newton...not exactly bad just not suited to the prevailing market conditions.
Like I said countless times before, networks determine what phones they'll subsidise for their subscribers and the main factor for them is the ability for a particular model to increase ARPU (average revenue per user).

hehehe i turn my back for a moment and i come back to read about tomato paste, frozen chickens, Keanu vs Kevin Costner, Steve's folly, and a staffie demonstrating a remarkable sense of self-preservation
Yebo Brix, i'm staying on strike until such time that the unions and state reach some kind of compromise.

WTF? Carphone Warehouse here have somehow located old stockpiles of brand new, PAYG (sim-free at CPW)

W550i and W800i's!
They're selling the W800i's for £84.95 (approx R1190) and the W550i for £79.95 (approx R1120), when bought with £10 airtime.
They're also selling the Z710i's for the same price as the W550i's now.
Z530i's for £49.95. (approx R700), W300i's for £20 more.

So yeah, i also have my fears about the i-phone. I really dont think it will have the functionality that i will need in a phone. Maybe it will be there, so i will see what the yanks come up with the next 6 months.
I listened to a podcast today on MyADSL called Toys and Technology. It was a few back. It was about the HTC phones. Worth a listen to, just to hear whats available. The guy who does the podcast, Steven, is a guy from our church. Go check it out. I am still keenly interested in HTC phones. Dont know if i will get one, but who knows. All i need is a phone that can make coffee:)

@da krypsta: Had a laugh with some civil servants when I wrongfully claimed Geraldine as a long lost aunt. They were all dressed in takkies and trackpants, ready to exercise some idle muscles that had not been properly exercised since the last stand-off with my long-lost aunt.
Maybe Geraldine and Manto are in cahoots in their stubborn resolve...at this rate chronic obesity will be a thing of the past and we'd have no need for Richard Branson and Discovery Health to profit off our lazy asses.
@Francois: I sincerely hope that I'm wrong and the iPhone is a roaring success.

The iPhone looks spectacular, maybe it will deliver.Remember there's phones built on linux, maybe OS X won't be that bad. It's a matter of wait & see!But still SYBIAN ROCKS,especially UIQ.
Greetings from the Capital of Mpumalanga,Nelspruit.
