A favourite film of mine. did anyone know that H G Wells mother was a cook in a huge Georgian mansion called Uppark house,(it burned down in the 1980's & was completely restored even down to the fading of the wallpaper so when you moved a painting it looked original)..
Anyway as a boy H G Wells gained access to the library by befriending the rich owners son, his "Time machine" book was really a clever onservation of life in the 1800's showing a hard & miserable life underground (uppark house had all the servants areas & kitchens built as tunnels under the house.....Trolls ?? ) & a weak helpless bunch of individuals above ground who had no emotion (the rich housholders).
Like so many films at the time ..Frankenstien, to name one.....(never originally a monster story), The Time Machine" was a political statement disguised as fictional adventure.
I love the line in the 60's version, "Look over here, here are the scratchmarks on the floor from the conservatory into the drawing room, where he dragged the machine to be be with the girl on return to her time".
I wanted to see a bit more with him cranking one up her
