It's a help thread, Paul. Not tell us what you did to your computer today thread.
Finally got my PC down to repair, Cyco.
Not good news.
The guy said even with the HDD out and in a caddy, he can't access it.
Summat about the boot sectore being too corrupt.
You reckon there might be any way other than for me to sit here with a 1GB mem. stick and move everything over one mem. stick load at a time or uploading to DigitalVault.

Ouch! Not really, to be honest

I'd be tempted to invest in a larger memory stick if I could.

Doesn't accept any form of new hardware or software. :\
If I do disk repair etc. more often in the future would it help prevent summat like this happening?

Sorry, I forgot about that
It depends what caused the hard drive to fail really. Sounds like hardware to me if the boot sector is totally unrecoverable so in this case, I don't think it would have helped.
But yes, M$ Scandisk isn't as useless as a lot of people think and running it every six months or so will help to stop small errors building up into big problems.
Might speed up loading times a little too, even with today's super fast machines

I'll get to doing that on the lappy so it doesn't go down the same road..
And actually the PC is 4-5 years old so it wasn't totally unexpected.

Copy 'n' paste the following into the run command box (click 'Start', then 'run')
notepad "%HOMEPATH%\Application Data\Google\User Dictionary.txt"
Notepad will open with your added words listed. Just delete the one you don't want and click 'file', then 'save' then exit notepad.
Job's a good 'un
