With mine being jailbroken there's a lot more drain on the battery than normal...
This puts me off quite a bit
TBH, I spent the last year or so tweaking and hacking my Tytn II to get it the way I wanted, and spent the whole time just wishing that HTC or Microsoft had done the job right in the first place, because most of these third party hacks bring as many problems as they solve.
With the iPhone, it really is pretty much perfect when it comes out the box, and so far I've no compulsion to mess that up. The "classic" design suits me fine
It'd be a different story without the Appstore - I could never have lived with the original iPhone and no third party apps at all - but with all the official stuff available now, I'm quite happy to make my phone my own that way. I actually agree with Apple's approach in limiting what badly written apps can get up to in the background.

Yeah I totally see your point... the appstore does give the iphone that extra lease of life that it didnt have before. To be fair though i only mentioned the jailbreaking being a drain on the battery because of things like SSH. Under normal usage, themes, icons, widgets, Intelliscreen etc etc really dont consume that much battery. Of course, it's a no brainer that a jailbroken iPhone will consume a little more battery than a stock iPhone and i can see this is the angle you're coming in at. As long as you're happy that is the most important thing... one mans meat is another mans poison

yeah i decided to bite the bullet and purchase... customer appreciation month @ Intelliborn too so it's only $9.99 atm which is a decent price. Version 2.29 doesnt work properly with 2.2 (as discussed before) and 2.30 was to fix these issues, and already today 2.32 is released. I just wanted to ease of being able to update it immediately in Cydia when updates are released.
The font is called Neo Sans (i think!) Decided i needed a change...something a bit more clean and simple! Found a couple of amazing links for lockclock fonts and system fonts. I think you can install Neo Sans and loads of other fonts directly to your phone if you put this source in Cydia
http://xsellize.com/cydia
Also once you've installed this source, install this source
http://cydia.hackulo.us/ You'll find 2 very very nice little programs to install there

Don't you have to restore from custom firmware to jailbreak it? Or once thats done does it use the backup file to put you settings/messages/calls back?

nup. You can use QuickPwn to jailbreak. The only real need to use a Custom Firmware for an iPhone 3g (using Pwnage Tool) is if you want to preserve the baseband and stop the firmware automatically updating it - this is if you are wishing for a soft-unlock in the near future from the iPhone dev team. I'm personally always going to use my iPhone with O2 so it didnt matter to me
