What I mean is that to be successful I think Sony would be better of to leverage all its assets across divisions. Their CEOs has talked about it for quite some time. I friend of mine had a fairly high position in an Asian Sony office and he complained about the silo mentality. Why not share more technology and content across divisions? From the Verge post:
"In fact, Sneeden went on to tell us that there aren't currently any products being co-developed by Sony Mobile and other groups within the company — they share some support staff, but the products themselves are entirely siloed. Likewise, Sneeden made it clear that Sony Mobile isn't responsible for Sony's Android-powered tablets. That's strange considering the overwhelming overlap in form factor, operating system, and hardware components, but he couldn't give any guidance on when (or if) that might change. "This is how it is," he said."
Give Sony some time; I'm sure everything will become more integrated (or, at least, the division of duties will make more sense).

From Business Week March 2005, i.e. 7 years ago:
Breaking the silos is probably the hardest task Stringer faces.

So it's not like Sony hasn't tried for a long time.

FreeXperia Project (the developer group on xda that have brought custom ROMs to our devices) have the Xperia S down as having the codename Fuji. Can anyone clear this up? Is that just a hardware codename, and the Xperia S proect codename was actually Nozomi? The other names they've got against other known devices are correct except they have es209ra for the X10 when we all knew X10 as Rachel. Any light?

Well, merging their content-distribution networks into SEN is already a step towards either a de-siloing or a more logical division of duties.

And therefore, because Sony's UI clearly performs better than TouchWiz and Sense, it's clear that Sony's "being behind" in processor core count doesn't cause any significant detriment to performance in terms of actual usage, especially as far as normal non-enthusiast users are concerned.

I think we must wait for the ICS android update for the Xperia S, than we can see some different.

I can't help but wonder why there is not any Sony phone with MHL port instead of the microUsb and hdmi ports combo. Choosing MHL would definitely help Sony create thinner smartphones. I hope Sony incorporate this in Hayabusha and Mint. Also, make them waterproof and support Bluetooth 3.0.
