If these were cancelled with a view to update the hardware then thats a good thing so I dont see what all the negativity is about. If in the end of comes back better then so be it.

IF the above is true, than good.
But users here remember well some previous SE stories,
so you know, even with the huge amount of good will,
nobody's trusting SE 100% anymore...
The rumours are strange, I'd say.

I'm curious, what kinda UIQ smartphone are you hoping SE will make?
Something similar to going from P900 to P990. I already have a P990 (actually 2 of them) so I wouldn't pay for the same thing with a different makeup.
There has to be improvement in RAM, processor, screen, more frequencies support, WLAN "G" and possibly GPS - with a decent keyboard. Along with some simple ergonomics, such as the headphone connector not being at the side, jog dial. Symbian 9.5 would definitely be a plus.
Please note that currently none of the SE offerings since the P990 have even the same size screen as the P990.

Its even more sad that the ancient p800 had a 3˝ screen!

Oh ok well that sounds good. From that list paris doesn seem to have a 2.8" screen, symbian 9.5 and the jogdial. I think you better off waiting for an X series UIQ device since that seems more likely to suit your needs although I am not sure if the jogdial will come back anytime soon.

I neglected to mention touch screen - take it for granted. So that eliminates Nokia for now and I'd like to have FM radio which also eliminates Tytn II.
And yes, I would like to try to avoid WM as much as I can.
It's too bad about the jog dial, I liked it more on the P800/900 when it was 5-way, I can get along with P990's but no jog dial is a restriction in functionality for me as I tend to use it a lot.
I suppose if I were buying a device to replace my P900 today, I would get the P1 because of its memory, if the P990 had more RAM it would be my choice. However, Tytn Touch Pro (AKA Raphael) really does look very appealing. If a comparable UIQ device is not available, it would be a comparison of features/price with the X1, currently I'm leaning towards the HTC
