@ nils7: Thanks! All of your information has been really helpful so far (and nice pictures too).
That's good news about M600 being ready I suppose; too bad P990 is taking so long. It doesn't look like it will be released here in the US, so I will be getting an unlocked version. Do you think that P990 will be available with carriers in Europe before the release of unlocked devices?
This is such a long and painful wait, and it just gets worse when you hear that there is even more delay on an already delayed phone!

My company has just told me to find out the release date, they have said if its after June then I need to start finding an alternative to replace all our phones.
What options are there with a good screen, touch etc?

The P990i is not delayed!
P990i was officially presented on the 1st of March I think it was.
Than they said Q2. Probably they won't gonna make it (or a wonder might occur!!!)
Personally I think August/September but that's not sure... I hear Juli but also September from different sources so I don't know.
It has kind a the same problems the new Nokia's have (which means although they are being launched they are buggy). Than there is a question would you like a buggy phone now or have a reliable one 3 or 4 months later? There are not so many people awake in the night when they supposed to be asleep because of the P990i isn't here. SE will be judged on the phone in the shops... not by some (let's say 1000 international) fans/freaks on.
Everybody who is reading this post and has more than 200+ posts at esato or any other phoneforum will buy one anyway (sooner or later). But for SE it is important the guy who walks into the store, doesn't know what a P-serie is, and walks away with it and is happy with it. Still after several months.
Nokia is putting the N91 & N80 on the market due to market pressure. First of all both products are for a wider market (more gadget-like phones). And will loose alot of customers who will find the N80 and N91 crashing very fast! (give me 5 minutes with it).
Just priorities.... you will see a lot of people complaining on other fora about these devices. But (probably) you won't hear someone about a P990i in the future (if they will fix everything, but I'm sure they will!)
The problems for the P990 are in the W-Lan and camera, ie. all the things the M600i misses! That's why it's earlier.
I hope you guys will understand why it isn't here yet, but bare in mind all your satisfactions will be fullfilled when it's there! It's worth the wait

I'm not sure what you mean by 1st of March?
The P990 was officially announced on October 10th last year in
this press release where it says "The phone will start shipping during Q1 of 2006."
I was lucky to see it the next day at the smartphone show in London where I took some pics and posted them in
this thread
I can fully understand peoples impatience now some 6 1/2 months after the announcement and already into the 2nd qtr of 2006 when they stated Q1 availability and still no real sign or solid info as to when it will be really available
I am very much reminded of the P800 delays however I'm sure most people will agree it will be better to buy a quality product later than an unreliable product now

Taken from another forum
Quote:I went to The Phone House in Stockholm Sweden today and the salesperson checked in their ordering system. The delivery info for P990 had recently been updated from Q2 to week 30. For M600 it was week 24. For the Nokia E61 it was week 21. Just to inform all UIQ fans.
But seeing as no one is releasing any firm info chances are thats a little dated as that would put in out in the middle of june.
I think ive convinced my boss to let me wait for my phone, my P900 is working so ill wait but weve since found out that the carkits for the P900/910 with the exception of hte bluetooth ones will not work with the 990, nor will your chargers, desktop stands or pretty much anything. Looks like all new accessories. Most companies were waiting so they didnt have to buy all new car kits... Like us, however with this revelation (taken from an official SE document) it seems we are no longer tied to the the SE route. Even my beloved Car-100 doesnt work
I can see what will happen though, the boss will get a new Treo or something, decides he doesnt like it, give that pile of poo to me and get himself my dream phone.

Masseur is absolutely right on the other hand I don't quite agree with 'NEILS7'. I know now 5 people using the N80 and 2 the N91. I agree is not a lot, but this are no 'normal' users. They try just about every thing on the cell's and apart of 1 annoying 'fault' if one can call it a fault, they only say nice things. Undoubtelly 'hardened' power users may exposience crashes here and there, especially if they will install cracked applications, but at least for now that does not seem to be the norm. (even if some members of this forum wish that) On the other hand SE have always had all sorts of 'connection' problems since day one (P800) I want to see/hope they manage to implement wifi (for the begin 'b' will be just fine). As a qualified radio technician comm. I have a idea what it means to put so many vco's, frq syntesisers on such a confined space ! Yes it looks like it can be done, but don't compare them to Nokia because the 2 companies are not in the same league. Is simply unfair !

I am amazed at how many people I see in London using a P9xx - these are business people and as far as I can tell not the kind of people that would be early adopters. I suspect that many people who bought the P800 were early adopters and they could tolerate some issues/problems with a leading edge device. I think the P990 will be a replacement purchase by many 'normal' people and they will expect a solid device. So I think it make sense for SE in the long term, if they want to sell their devices in high volumes, to make sure they have a quality product before they release it. I know this may upset a lot of us 'geek' types but I am sure SE will have even more leading edge devices for us in the near future (SE - how about a Communicator type devices running UIQ3?).

nah, thats just a press release announcing some previously unannounced content (applications and entertainment) for the P990
London, 6th Feb 2006 – Sony Ericsson today revealed a host of unannounced applications and entertainment content features for its flagship Wi-Fi enabled UMTS smartphone, the P990, which was introduced to the Global Developers community in October 2005
if its was the press release and presentation for the P990 then it would not be titled Sony Ericsson reveals new productivity, imaging and entertainment features for the P990 Smartphone
clearly in the press release I previously linked to from October 10th 2005, that is the announcement of the phone and it was there for all to see next day at the show I went to (I am no developer and did not have to show any developer credentials to gain entry)
anywhcihway, there is no need to argue this point because clearly we have
known about, and
discussed in detail, the phone since that 10th October press release and it clearly stated availablity of Q1 2006 and we are still waiting!
