@ PhoenixSpiri,
There really is no need for a class action Lawsuit as at least here in the UK every user could claim not fit for purpose as stated in the pre release literature specifications and get full refunds and that's the Sim Free versions. IMO the Networks would be in even worse shape as they have actually removed features and functionality with no information given until you discover it on your device.

But this really is not what people want they want their P990's and they want them to do all that was claimed they would do. The M600 is now IMO very stable although 17mb Ram is the norm on boot up and only 13mb Ram once up and running even with SwissManager being used aggressively to shut apps down. Now Nokia did manage to squeeze 5mb extra Ram out of the N93 if SE could do the same i am sure it would help.

But again for fear of repeating myself the days of being able to access and change all parts of the OS are finished due to the increased security and true multitasking also IMO is gone for good well at least with the current generation of devices. As i have also said Multitasking is possible but in a much more limited way then was possible previously and we either have to accept that and get used to it or get rid of our devices. Yes firmware upgrades should improve things but not to the extent most would like to see there certainly is room for improvement lets just hope we see them soon.

Quote:wtf are those memory values seen in the Task Manager ? I mean, according to TM, Messaging occupies 187 KBytes of RAM. But when I shut the Messaging app down, the phone has about +2 MBs free. The 187 KBytes is the code size of the main program module, which is only a fraction of the total memory the given program uses (as you observed). The system function for querying the total memory consumption of a program has been deleted from Symbian 9.x (so it affects UIQ3 and S60/3).

Hi Lisa,
Thanks for that plain English explanation, i have an M600 and obviusly use SwissManger aggressively and do consider it an essential app. Would i benefit greatly from the Pro Version a it appear geared more towards the P990?. I have looked at the differences but can see no compelling reason for my use of the M600 am i missing something? The only other reason to upgrade would be to give you payment for an excellent product that currently i have free.

I see that your P990 have better chance to get stable than mine ( mine is singapore ver. which have less RAM and less attention from SE ). I really hope that the fw would fix many things. Like all you say guys, at least now you still can use your phone for a few application, but for me... there is no single aplications i can launch for a few hours withouth closing itself.... i don't know for sure why they make such an idiot phone, even oldest nokia symbian based (7650) could do better. for instance i can open agile and accept calls or sms without closing itself with 7650.... but now i can't do it with my P990.... how do you think?

@Dogmann Like you I had the freeware version of Swiss Manager, downloaded the trial version of Swiss Manager Pro and found it much more useful because of the always visible icon that displays the time. Tapping on the icon allows you to reclaim memory, end background apps, quick access to favourites etc. Thanks to CPS for making a must have app!

Back on topic, I hope that this fimware release gives us more RAM at boot up and better memory management.

Well we know that SE have a continuous FW development programme, so it just depends on if they think a particular version is ready for release. In the UK the P990 has been shown on Sky TV as representing the latest generation of Smartphones and has received good reviews in the magazines so lets hope SE make the effort to fix the bugs and alleviate some of the memory problems.

I am generally happy with my P990 and super quick W950 (and innovative M600 ) bur many people who use Push email are going to feel very cheated if SE don't fix the low RAM issues soon. And if they are not fixed now then I think there is a limit to what can be done with the current architecture and we'll have to wait for Symbian 9.3 for the real 'P990'!
