this is sad, neither of Z1s and Z1 compact carries IPS panels. Guess it only happens in Japan... when will we ever see IPS outside of Japan?

So Z1s doesn't differ that much from Z1, except the larger 32GB which is a very welcome change for Sony that they should do it long time ago ( at least with Z1, not to mention the original Z )... but why the Z1s dimensions are different ? why they make two different but identical devices where they can do it with one only ? now they will need to have different ROM's and maintain different development lanes for these devices... and Sony should focus on having fewer devices to have quicker updates for all of them...

32GB is good, I hope all new high-ends will come with at least 32GB of internal memory now... it's a move we all been waiting for from 2013 !!

But why having different ASIC for exactly same device !! waste of resources is all I can see

Were you fooled by the “TFT” again?

Z1 Compact comes with IPS screen only, don't fret

Sony Mobile never mentions panel type. Even Tablet Z screen is listed as TFT

No more then ok event in terms of smartphones, cause there were nothing really new. i guess from now on ces is no more an event for sony's new flagships.
the Z1c looks great. it seem to have IPS display just like Z1f by looking at the hands on videos - looks sharper with better viewing angles, but maybe sony don't market it as IPS to the international consumers? if so, why is that? gsm arena also says it's IPS display. also pocketnow hands on reviewer says the viewing angles are improved from Z1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MjyHSwDKtXU . strange thing from sony marketing. maybe they don't want the Z1s display to look inferior in display sheet - but it IS inferior in terms of the display! just look at both displays side by side.
another thing, Z1s turned out to be t mobile version and not exactly like the rumor here said... so what is Z1 true refresh name going to be? "Z1 pro"? or "Z2" after all? i bet we will find out for sure at MWC - sirius, canopus, new tablet z and smartwatch 3.
2 good signs: Z1c by the look of it is a sign that sony is starting to take display criticism more seriously and i sense 32 gb of Z1s is going to be standard in all sony future flagships.
EDIT: If anyone still don't believe it's IPS - mobile review also says it is: http://www.mobile-review.com/[....]ony-xperia-z1-compact.shtml#s2 "IPS-display diagonal of 4.3 inches, a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels, viewing angles are better than the Z1, tilt the image is not so much fade. I have sworn never to say anything about Sony displays until smartphones on sale - see what will be installed in commercial samples."
"By the way, the screen can be operated with gloves, wet hands, this feature of the compact version." - gloves mode also made its way from Z1f - is it another sign as standard for future flagships?

There is Z1 NO refresh

No more devices related to Z1. So let's forget Z1 now here on

@randomuser
if you read carfully what i wrote, obviously i meant that the Z1s is not sirius like the rumor floated here and there. yes it's a really minor refresh, but not the true refresh to Z1 - CES was the place for new flagships. was the place. anyway, a good move by sony. from IFA to CES there is not even half a year. MWC is a sweet spot to announce a true refresh/new flagship, considering sony is still going with half a year strategy. rumors suggested that since "avatar" rumor in september. "march-april release"

The only things now that Sony should change is the low internal memory, larger software team for earlier adoption of latest Android version, faster updates and better overall software including the camera and remove or improve that shatter-proof, fingerprint-magnet film.

Rather disappointed with Sony at this year's CES, a let down. No z tab refresh and no small 8 inch windows tablet. looks like the z tab refresh will occur in either Japan first or at MWC.
