Sim-free handsets, thus autonomous of direct network marketing strategies, are another classic example of prices dropping. I have bought 4 sim-free handsets from
www.expansys.com and 2 from
www.mobilefun.co.uk. Visit these sites regularly and watch the prices of the SIM-FREE handsets drop every few weeks. Expansys always quotes the amount of specific handsets in stock, which makes it a bit easier to check if they have got a cheaper consignment by replenishing their stocks, or just reducing the profit margins and therefore price, as the new handsets become more and more dated after each month and demand drops as newer handsets begin emerging.
If I look at how much money I lost on 2 of the handsets (6670 and black v3) when they came out, to what they cost 2 months later, it does kinda make me feel sick. That's the nature of the beast, I guess.
An example: Nokia's new 6230i SIM-FREE costs £214.95 from
www.mobilefun.co.uk at the mo, last week it was £229.95 and last month it was around £249!
Hmm, methinks cellphone prices droppeth...

@ Tahir,
Yeah, the 'Stop The Clock' promotion that you are mentioning is pretty damn good, particularly from a PAYG persective, and as you also correctly mentioned, is available for contract as well.
Unfortunately I make most of my calls during peak times. Because of this, Vodafone UK is just way too expensive for my needs. If I was a frequent off-peak caller, it would be FANTASTIC.
Another example: Vodafone smatstep or smartplus charge 35p per minute to other networks during peak times and 12p per sms.
With easymobile it's 15p cross-net and 7p per sms,
or Tesco (Pommie version of Pick n' Pay), using O2's reception, charge 20 per minute flat rate and 10p per minute flat rate to your fave 3 numbers.
There is also a lot of PAYG promotions at the moment, eg. Orange are doing their Prepay Repay scheme, where they give £5.00 credit for every £10 you spend at the moment, or O2 with their online PAYG special, getting either 300 sms's for £10 or 100 minutes x-net for £10...not too shabby, hey?
But yes, the Vodafone promotion comes at a good time when there are so many UK networks with cheap PAYG promotions. It certainly is a massive bargain..let's hope it lasts.

@Tahir,
Ya, even the Tesco packets/carrier bags look the same, with the trademark vertical blue stripes etc!
I see what you mean regarding Night Talk..only 80c a minute from 10pm. A pity the end is nigh(t!) for this promotion.
I think I'll get another Vodacom simcard when I'm on holiday in July, then I can register it on vodacom4me and get those lovely 20 free sms'ses a day, sent from a pc!
My nephew is also in the UK now and sms's his girlfriend in CT from his pc here in the UK, using the vodacom4me sms's.

@Tahir: Good one but Hellkom will never allow it. One of the cons of Vodafone not owning the network. BTW...used MTN's GPRS last night and it was fast as lightening.
