@ nils7: I don't understand why you say that the P990 is not delayed. It was supposed to be out Q1, but SE had to push it back to Q2. Their site currently claims a release in June, but everyone says they will not make it, thus a delay into Q3. If they aren't going to make the June release, they should change it on the site.

Another thing: I obviously don't have inside knowledge of how the OS is progressing, and I don't mean to speak for anyone here...but it seems that the basic user who knows nothing about the P-Series and just buys the phone would not run into the difficulties that the rest of us might. What I mean is that the phone will probably be ready enough so that a new buyer will not run into serious complications. Those of us that install tons of applications and intensively use the phone will find the problems first; but we are also the ones that can easily solve these issues and often update the firmware online. Oh well -- that's just my two cents.

Back to the actual phone...I have a question. Now that the headphones connect through the charging port, is it possible to charge the phone while they are connected? Is there some sort of splitter or something?

As masseur said it is shaping up to be exaclty like the P800...the way I see it, we had to wait AGES for the P800 (SE first venture with Symbian) it took them time to sort out the bugs (remember that error message saying to press the power button)...by the time the P900 came out the OS was more stable, buy the third version (P910i) it was generally a stable OS. The time gap between these three reduced signifantly

Now the P990 is coming out on a new version of the OS, built from almost grounds up...we are waiting for AGES (again)...the device will prob be full of bugs that wont really be ironed out until the P1010 (or whatever they call it!).

But i am still going to buy the phone and cant wait to get it!

Not true, I believe the R380 probably had the first Symbian OS Ericsson deployed. But UIQ2 was new for SE (new to Motorola as well)

Be very careful .... the original 2 R380s werent Symbian nor even its predecessor Epoc. It was based on some other C++ code. the 3rd version or the R380W (World) was based on EPOC OS > from which Symbian spawned. But the design and the P-series heritage is from that same smartphone; hence the P series popularity.

Prom1 - thanks for the information. Looked on Google but could not find a reference to a non-Symbian R380. But I did say 'I believe...' and my R380 is Symbian (model R380s, purchased in the UK as soon as it was available).

PeterKay,

It is all a mindgame.

I have also emailed Sony Ericsson in January and they gave me a March launch date before the official delay in February.

I emailed them again in March and was given a late June/early July launch date.

If the rumour of a delay to Q3 is true, I believe that Sony Ericsson will email and say that the launch date be September or if it is delayed to Q4, a December/early January 2007 launch date. There is a pattern here.

I think that it is better to remove the paperclip note in this photo and replace it with the word TBA as there is no truth in it only misinformation.
