after updating to 2.1
i cant restore the contacts from the original backup and restore
function which comes with the phone
anything else works fine, only the contacts
though it shows me that its copying my data
but when i check, nothing is there
anybody faced this problem??

The backup only takes backup of contacts not synchronized with google or SE sync (it is mentioned in the app). Perhaps that's what you have encountered ?

Hi Bahraini, Arne is right... your contacts are automatically stored in your Gmail/Google Apps account. Sign in to your Google Account first then your contacts will be restored.

@Bahraini, the new 2.1 phonebook saves numbers in different ways now. If you don't sync w/ your google account (although this is my personal recommended method) you can export your entire phonebook to the memory card, or save all contacts as a single vcf file.

If you are refering to your contacts specifically, the only way is not to sync with SE or Google sync, which is a bit pitty. Personally I use MyPhoneExplorer with which I can sync with my PC (or Outlook if that'w what you want)..
