Lexar have have been
licenced since 2000 to produce memory sticks and indeed Sony invested quite a bit in Lexar to help them when that licence started.
Licencing involves stringent
requirements and lexar put their brand name on their products so they are not trying to make people think they are Sony or Sandisk
@masseur - I think LEXAR is an inferior-quality-brand of memory card
Like those of: PQI and TwinMos for MMC-cards
But to my surprise, I remember already seein' this brand years back

Mr. Massure - you are correct. And you seem incredibly knowledgable about the Lexar deal. You would also probably know that Lexar has simply OEM'ed cards from Sony until quite recently when they began their own manufacture in Singapore.
Jo-Jo - While I'm not a huge fan of Lexar, they are two or three notches above the Shanghai garage sweatshop operations we see pumping out Sony MS products.
Anyway, the Lexar question is all well and good for PRO and Duo, but you won't be seeing any Lexar M2 in the near future. Or even 2GB Sony.

hi all, i have a problem, so i figured i would come here..
i recently bought a 4gb pro duo card for my Sony K750i off ebay for about £30, it was working great untill i tried to put a substantial amount of music on it (1gb) but only a handful of the songs would acctualy play, i cant quite remember the error message, but it was something along the lines of "failed to play media file."
feeling rather worried, i went to google. i took advice from a website (http://ilari.scheinin.fidisk.fi/blog/?p=20) and formatted the card using the "format ext. memory" function in the file manager.
however, when i lthen conected my phone to the computer, (via USB lead) the folders that the phone uses had not been re-created, as someone on here had said it should. (I read this somewhere yesterday.)
i have tried formatting it again to no avail, i have even tried copying the files from the memory card that came with the phone. (it just said the file had become corrupt when viewed in windows.
and another thing, it wouldn't work with my mum's belkin memory card reader, it just crashed explorer :S

EDIT: i have tried re-creating all the files that are on my 64mb stick (that works) manualy, only for it to say they are currupt.

Why on God's green earth do you buy memory cards on Ebay. This is probably a counterfeit. Can you post a picture?

Lexar is very good memory card brand esp the pro line. If you are in dSLR world only two name stand above the rest: Sandisk and Lexar. Both company is the only one listed in KM/Sony dSLR brand as 100% certified and tested. I bet Canon and Nikon also test their dSLR with Sandisk and Lexar. Both company is locked in speed battle with their premium CF card (sandisk Extreme IV and Lexar Pro UDMA) with Lexar upcoming Pro UDMA CF look like a winner (45MBps sustained write/read speed) . Lexar are first who created Locktigth (security for CF).
The most important thing to do is to ensure you have genuine Sandisk or Lexar memory. Their premium/pro line (Extreme and Lexar Pro) have many counterfeit that may lack in speed. I rate both card about the same.
Usually ppl in computer background only knows company that make DRAM lke kingston, etc. But the flash memory is different. KM dSLR for instance never like Kingston flash. It is very slow.
Sandisk is one of the creator of flash memory so no one should doubt that brand. Lexar pro class is also very good, I have two pro 80x CF and it never fail me before. However I can't really speak about their regular memory flash as I never use it before.

i am guessing it must be short or dead cause i could not get any thing to read it or format it

If I had to choose, Compact Flash. At least that is the fastest and biggest capacity one with 16GB already available and 32Gb coming real soon. Not cheapest anymore since all others memory format has become quite cheap this days.
The thing I hate about this is every years new memory format being introduced while it is unnecessary to do so. Hopefully SE stop with M2 format (that is small enough and if it goes smaller some ppl may loose it. Micro-SD (trans) also already small enough.
