I was having problems with deleting messages. I did a Master Reset and after that I found my Messaging App had an additional menu item I did not have before in addition to Local Delete called Delete Message! What is going on?

Ah, (re: My-symbian postings) no wonder I was having no problem deleting emails and wondering quite what you were doing then.
Sounds very strange...

Still no obvious way of delete text messages though in flip open mode without actually opening the text message itself?

You can delete a text message without opeing it, just highlight the one that you want, and click the del button on the keyboard, you will then be prompted with a confirmation of the deletion, you can then press Y on the keyboard for yes, or N on the keyboard for no...

On a note about memory, i am currently on 0.9m available! And before you ask, yes i have done the update...

Also someone mentioned about a noise when you hang up from a phone call, are you guys getting a sounds when you lose signal and then regain signal again...????

Yeah, found that out a little earlier. Still it does seem slight inconsistent that there is no actual delete option in the menu when in the text messaging inbox.

So do you have a delete option on the flip open menu for text messages when in the inbox, or only when you open the message itself? I've always had the delete option in email inboxes but never in the text messaging inbox.

@sleepyhead,

yes - I have a delete message option in flip open mode in the screen where you select the check boxes for which text messages you want to perform some action with...

I used the Service Menu to do a Master Reset - have a go and see if that helps.

This tells me that UIQ3 uses a lot of caching to build context sensitive menus etc and to provide speed of operation. Incorrect caching could explain why menus change after resets

hey guyz even after the update the ram issue still exsist , do u think SE will solve this major issue thru their future update?.secondly i think SE has intentionally installed the task manager in the 990i coz they must be aware that the ram mite be a issue for this handset and this feature will be required too often by its users.thirdly can the ram issue be resolved thru updates or will it be a permanent hardware issue we will have to live with.awaiting ur reply from all my esato forum collegues at ur earliest thnx.

I managed to update the firmware without a problem, but when I tried to restore using a backup I made before the firmware update, the restore just hung until it eventually gave up.

The only way I managed to restore everything was to untick the "3rd party apps" option, then it seems to have restored fine. The weird thing is that the 3rd party apps seem to be there anyway...

Here is a small list of things I found changed in the new firmware. It might happen that some of those aren't new as I maybe haven't noticed it before now.

* Updated default theme
* Some updated icons
* New design on some slidebar options
* Opera browser starts faster
* More input options, predict text flip open or closed option
* New internet wizard in connections control panel
* System response is better
* New RSS icon in Opera when available on website
* Edit: it's was a setting - URL input in Opera now begins with low case
* Virtual keyboard is always available in system bar

New problems encountered:
* Edit: it's was a setting - URL entery begins by default with digits, need to press alt to disable blue keys
* Some video capturing saving errors

Edit:
* Realaudio files start to chop after a 4-5 minutes (tried 2 hour long recordings, might not be indexed)

@xxrawdogxx,
Yea, I experienced the same thing when I had a class, the phone shut down twice during the day. Battery was around 40-60%. That was with the old R4B firmware. I also experienced weird 'The message was damaged and was repaired' error message when opening a sms message. An hour after that all the messages and data in Messaging was corrupted and deleted unexpectedly, dunno how.
