all these tricks can be used on K850/W910 now with total gsm offering modding services. However we need a copy of K850 and W910 menu.ml files. Anyone have a link?

It's possible to mod the menu of DB3150 phones, but not for free. It costs 10 Euro's with Davinci. Also Totalgsm can give you access to DB3150 file systems. Not sure what they charge.
Which ever way you go, you can also use the cmz_config.xml hack - by using davinci or totalgsm to put this file into your phone's hidden file system you can later add as many files as you want without having to use davinci or totalgsm ie: you can do it for free.
The catch is you have to do atleast a master reset to copy the files. cmz_config allows you to specify files that will be uploaded from the Other folder into the phone's file system when the phone is master reset. The cmz_config file is usually used to help brand a phone, but in this case you can use it to do your own "branding".
See luhccas-k790's post here with a link also to download the file you need to upload to install cmz_config:

Next thing we need to do is get a copy of a W910 or K850 menu.ml file. I don't particularly want to test with a K800 menu.ml when I have to do a master reset eachtime I copy files

I've tried doing this with my w800i although when I plug the phone in and hold 'c' nothing happens. The drivers ask to install although it just fails to install. What's wrong?

yes, there are instructions on my K800 web page (works with K790/K750/K810 as well), but you need to gain FS access to your phone:
http://www.mobile.gemtech.net.au/k800/fs.html (see the heading "Remove Online Content links within File Manager" on that page)
