Well i get between 1900 and 2,200kbps here in the UK on Voda and the iPhone is about half the speed i am used to...

Well you obviously get the 7.2Mbps version of HSDPA then, VodaNZ may have that here before Xmas If AT&T didn't have 3G last year then maybe 800 is the best average speed they've got ATM? I've noticed my HSDPA speed increase by 200kbps in the last 3 months

But more worrying is the fact that 02 don't have great data support and your lucky to get 384kbps currently. Hopefully they are implementing HSDPA fast so that there iPhone users can take advantage of the better speeds.

I agree, they have to sort that out. Surely the embarressment of being two generations behind in data would be enough? Maybe not.

Anyway it's not something i need to worry about as the iPhone is just not a device for me.

Doesn't O2 already have HSDPA, my sisters K850, on O2, has a 'H' symbol at the top, does this not mean its HSDPA?

I think they were saying that O2's current HSDPA is crap and hopefully they're improving it...

I found o2's HSDPA to be mostly fine, although not as extensive coverage as t-mobile for the routes I take

There is an issue where low tariff users were being capped at 128kbps for 3g but it took just a simple phone call to have this restriction lifted

Patchy data coverage is the same as no data coverage in my book. If it doesn't work everywhere you want it to all the time its a useless waste of time.

Several times I've tried to send video calls on Aucklands North Shore and found that I'm not in a 3G zone so it fails completely. This prevents me from making regular use of video calling which I really like and would use everytime I make a call if I could.

Fortunately I get great HSDPA speed at home.
Faster than some landline connections nearby are capable of

The good thing about the iphone is, it is available within 2 mo. after it is announced. Good job.

The new 3G device will be activated in store in both AT&T and Apple stores. Customers must accept AT&T and Apple Ts & Cs, sign a 2-year agreement, and select the data plan for the iPhone 3G before leaving the store. The current iTunes activation process will no longer be required for iPhone 3Gs, however a short tether process to unbrick the 3G device will be performed in all AT&T stores (tether cords will be provided). Apple stores will also perform this tether process, however in the event that a customer's device is not tethered in the Apple store, their device will be inoperable until they get home and tether through iTunes. Prepaid and Pick Your Plan will not be allowed on the 3G device.
