What a complete and utter load of nonsense!
People don't need to have shares in Esato or
to express favourable opinions about
.
Last Q 14 million SE phones were sold. Were all those people wrong or deluded? No. They were putting their money where their mouth is and some of them may have no idea what A100/A200/UIQ is, yet their opinions are just as valid as yours.
The amount of self justification in your post shows what you are most interested in - your opinion at the expense of everyone else's. Let's stick to discussing Rachael shall we?
I think concentrating on Rachael's 'Ericsson-esque' styling is missing the point. The massive leap forward here for
is in UI, which has been SE's strong suit for years. I can't wait to see this phone released.
Carkitter ... of HoFo fame.
First you NEED to read correctly. I DID NOT say that you have to OWN shares to be a fan or to express favorable opinions so your response to something i did NOT say is utter nonsense!!
Second, I didn't say what they DID sale was SE doing something wrong either. What I DID say is LOSS of sales shows that something WRONG is being done! SonyEricsson KNOWS this and has done something PUBLICLY acknowledging this by changing a few of the top brass; just last month. Also their new focus of the BRAND shows they've recognized something going WRONG with sales! If you CANNOT see these obvious sign's then you need to read MORE of their press releases before arguing points with me here; because you're missing my point.
The brand needed to evolve - beyond the UIQ P1i SE didn't really have a strong suit in UI. Here me out on this before attacking me. Every single UIQ device before their G-Series was a function slightly to a SMALL degree changed from what others used: Motorola's M series had MANY of the same functions and UI layout because it was already created by UIQ not by SonyEricsson; Until the P1i & G-Series. The A platform devices followed the same basic UI "organization" that was used by others like Nokia, Samsung, etc. SE's greatest strength is NOT in UI but in Java & Multimedia - specifically music & pictures (video last)! This is why the X2 has the BEST VM scores of any device currently on the market. IF
's best strength was in UI they would've released android long ago, but didn't because of 2 major things: limitations on Java & multimedia weakness that they could use to bring their brand forward with showing their uniqueness in this field.
SE: T68i - UI
SE: K700i - Camera/Pictures, Music finally large memory on a feature phone!!
SE: K750 - Camera/Pictures & Multitasking via Java.
SE: K790a - same as above nothing really major (there is a HUGE thread highlighting pixelation MOST of us here didn't realize)
SE: K850i - Camera pixel increase just like K790a, slightly larger screen, more than 1 alarm setting.
SE: W800 - Music & Java (Camera/Pictures was enabled by the community; not originally intended by
as marketed).
SE: W810 - Music/Camera/Pictures & Multitasking via Java (2 apps at once).
SE: W905 - Camera
SE: W995 - Music/Camera/Pictures
SE: W705 - Music
SE: P800 - Symbian/Mobile computing (Symbian another long major strength of SE)
SE: P910 - Symbian/Mobile computing
SE: P990 - Symbian/Mobile Computing/Camera/Music
^ I've just listed THE best selling
phones, arguably, to date in the past 5yrs! Do you notice a trend in the K, W, T and other SonyEricsson platform series? Hardly ANY many changes since the T68i. Increase of resolution after T68i debuted, multi-tasking & great music playback & app K750/W800 (ok Major change here), W810 (refinement really and done exceptionally well), W905 Camera improvements (mostly in pixels; smile detection, image stabilization where already becoming the industry standard - Samsung was first with both), K790a .1" larger screen than W810 (?) and more than 1 alarm, K850i brought touch sensors (but was hated by MOST fans here because it was implemented badly; personally I really liked it - check my posts in the official thread) & dual card use (again
abondoned this!) and also qvga recording at 24fps (up from 15; not really major as MOST fans here wanted 30fps & VGA resolution).
Of all the improvements above has ANYONE but me noticed that the layout of the UI was barely changed over the years?! IF it was SE's strength it was also its achilles heel. The Calendar, Browser, and Phone book have hardly changed at all - and if it did MANY users would be happier; but the UI layout if changed fans would go apeshit! The Calendar received NO change at ALL although the Notes app was changed (why)!? The NetFront Browser although changed in versions over the years, ONLY in 3.2 on the K850i onward did it allow for more than 1MB of cache and greatly improved rendering (yet STILL held back by SE). NetFront has a LOT more to offer than many fans here know of for feature phones and I'm almost positive many would love the improvements as it doesn't threaten the UI of their
phones. Phone Book could use a slight adjustment as well but its done exceptionally well thus far (better than even Nokia's S60 devices).
My complaints above are my own, and I voice them hoping to show others what could be changed without major upset to
design & layout, and also for discussion. Not everyones needs in using a phone remain the same throughout their life, just as their needs for a home computer do not remain the same for their entire lives. Peoples needs change and thus their needs as well, and so their choices for phones will go to what the BEST match is offered. 3yrs ago, or more, threads highlighting other platforms or devices by the competition where shunned, members insulted just by their choices & opinions, and closed just because of the senseless flaming. Times have changed and many fans here in this very thread have tried, liked/disliked, or even kept other devices by the competition: case in Point the huge iPhone & BlackBerry threads. This is not to be ignored; but food for thought.
Back on topic:
The major things that SE is bringing to the Android userbase with Xperia X3 Rachel is:
- Camera resolution with LED flash.
- Media Browser for Music/Pictures/Video use
- Camera UI which slowly improves each year just like music playback UI
- Snapdragon cpu; which quickly will be used by the competition as well
- Finally synchronization of online contact data.
This will mark the SECOND time of a MAJOR UI change by SE on a platform other than their own. Xperia X1 was the first.

To add to my recent post above ... in a positive note.
For years SonyEricsson has had access to a HUGE Music & Movie database. Their ecosystem for accessories is possibly second only to Apple with regards to variety/choice & Nokia with regards to just sheer number of accessories (less handsets made). However, like Nokia SonyEricsson has focused almost entirely on Europe & Asia for services.
SonyEricsson has a HUGE chance to match Apple worldwide with regards to launching PlayNow and PlayNow Arena worldwide in every major country with the launch of Xperia X3 using Android. They can get a huge foothold in the market and quickly capitalize on this while putting a major mudhole in Apple ass; all at the same time. Now add to this a worldwide launch of Rachel, mobile wireless backup of user data and customizations (sync as well), then we have a SERIOUS explosion.
For those that are angered by my posts, sorry but I'm not going to bend to the common thought. I state my points for thought, provoking it & possibly to evolve it (both yours & mine). Snuffing out others opinions is not my intent, if I do so - I do so intently because either its lacking in ... contemplation/intelligent thought (sorry I'm unsure the word I'm looking for that best fits this). If you check my posts over the past year you'll notice I help others out or ask for help when I can and even defend those where english is not their first language while others insult them/pick at their words. I was amongst the user base that complained & discussed lack of SE's efforts for a North American phone with EDGE or 3G offering the same features that Europe/Asian users where getting. This brought us the W810, W610, Z520, K790a, K850i, C905 (made the mistake of calling it the W905 before), etc. So discussion against the common fan base (stating everything that SE does is great) allows for change for the better and helps SE include those that want to buy their products instead of shunning them away.
For the record - I currently nor have in the past own ANY stock in ANY company!!
Cheers.

I'm not a SE fanboy but I can't understand how someone can consider buying the Acer Liquid when the Xperia X3 with a similar shape (they both have the same size +/- 1mm) has a bigger screen, a better camera with led light (probably a better battery life). The only advantage of the Liquid is its price. It is very cheap (400€), we all have to admit that SE should make an effort to build cheaper phones.
The real competitor for the Rachael is the rumored Sholes tablet (that will be delivered in Europe by Motorola in Q1): 3.7 inches screen, qwerty keyboard in a thin shape, 8megapixels with xenon flash, xvid support. I can't stop thinking that phones without physical keyboard are useless in the professional life.
Edit: SE should learn some things of Motorola e.g: agressive advertising ===>

@Prom1
You should share your thoughts with
as well.
I agree with all of your opinions. That's why I stuck with P1i.
BTW, I love the white one

I hope they give us as many options in volume/vibrate alert as in the P1. I love the fact that I can turn off the messages volume and/or vibrate alert while keeping the calls volume and/or vibrate alert on while I'm sleeping at night.
Every conceivable volume and vibrate alert has been included in the P1 which was brilliant. From email, calendar, alarm, ringtones and messaging.

@Dups!
It seems
made things right with the P1i, except the screen size
I love it eventough the screen size. That qwerty is brilliant.
Aren't there a solution to have full size screen and qwerty like p1i

Errr... no. I don't visit Howard Forums.
As far as I know the name carkitter is unique. I made the word up in 2005 when I joined Esato.
Your ideas about Play Now are off the planet, 'enuff said.

@OffLineR
The P1 is SE's best smartphone even by today's standards. It truly was and still is brilliant! I agree that they could've made the screen a 2.8" considering that there is a 'dead space' between the keypad and screen.
Sadly, there doesn't seem to be any chance of SE resurrecting the design which really is a shame as I would dearly love a modern P1 with Android.
That is why I'm settling for Rachael even though I am no fan of 'touchscreen only' phones. The white Rachael is a stunner but I'm leaning towards the black one.

Prom you said how not everyone has the same tastes for every SE phone and finds em all acceptable. That I can agree with. Looking over things 8MP isn't really needed for me and seeing how I like buttons(not like 3 of em) I personally am not getting this. But I will get another Android phone which is not SE for that sole reason. And the price as well.
