@ jake20 - how did some random footage of an American football game persuade you to buy a N8 ? am i missing something ?
the quality of the video at 720P is amazing for a cell phone.. i want to be able to have a quality video camera like this at my fingertips at all times.

No im not kidding. I didnt know many N97 owners but the ones who had it upon release were all quite happy with it.
One of which i played with thoroughly was also very stable, it was a friends (white - yuck !) N97, i wanted it months before release but sadly O2 had their heads shoved too far up Apple's backsides to offer any phone that looked like or resembled the iPhone 3GS. Thankfully O2 lost their exclusive deal and Orange, Vodafraud and the other operators could then offer the iPhone meaning the Satio made it to O2 for me to get on a free upgrade.
The N97 was a fantastic phone and still is to this day. I always call it 'the best phone i never actually owned'.

well im my experience being a nokia customer i have never had any software issues on first releases, thats why i love nokia, theirs first firmware release are very stable (in my own experience n95-8gb, n82, n86) so i expect the same for this phone
That's not my experience with the E72. Nokia has released several firmware updates during the six months I've owned the phone but there are still very annoying bugs in the phone. One example: can't send mail when configuring MfE for Google Sync. This works fine on my old E90.

Hi, Jake!
Disappointed? Be more specific about your disappointment. What more would you expect from pictures like these? Those are very harsh conditions. The only thing missing here is perhaps a little bit more of exposure. Take the first shot, for instance. It has an exposure time of 1/17 seconds.
What would you say about this one? This is an ISO 400 picture. Pretty impressive stuff, donīt you think?
Besides the still picture performance prowess, what catches my eye is the pixel binning that makes up for the absence of a proper optical zoom during video recording. This kind of digital zoom really seems to be just as good as an optical zoom.

Hi Vit!
its good to see you again my friend.
wow, that last picture looks amazing. was that taken on N8?
I think my expectations were a little too high maybe. I used to see N86 low light comparison shots, and they always appeared to produce more light in low light conditions.. and Nokia themselves used to say that N86 did not need xeenon flash because the sensor was so big it let in plenty of light.
So, when N8 came along boasting the biggest sensor ever, i just expected amazing low light shots in almost any conditions.. it seems i should have not expected so much.
as you know, C905 takes great stills, but bad video.. I love the video of the N8, but just trying to decide if the still shot camera is that much better than my C905, and with these modded drivers, there is so much customization options.
I just don't want to spend $500 on the N8, and then still feel like I miss my C905 camera at all.

Thanks! Good to be back... Iīve run apart from SE, so that was why Iīve left this forum.
Yes, that picture came from a N8. Take a look at the link where Iīve taken it from. There youīll find more good ones @ night.
I guess that Nokiaīs guys will always exempt themselves from their mistake of not putting a proper flash inside the N86. It was a clear fail, although it had all the credentials to be a great camphone.
I understand your expectations regarding low light, but itīs too soon to tell itīs not good. Rather than that, I particularly think it will be awesome in low light, due to this high ISO capabilities shown in recent samples.
Take the Satio, for instance. It only enables slower shutter speeds (of up to 1s) in its Twilight Mode. As for those N8īs pics youīve provided, I presume it has been used an Auto Mode with Manual ISO @ the lowest setting. I guess that a low shutter speed mode is also available.
Itīs good to see that Nokia has clearly opted for a mild noise reduction algorithm @ higher ISO settings. That helps to mantain much of the dynamic range and colour saturation when faced against low ISO pictures. Thatīs a very good approach.
I also understand your concern about missing your C905. Even though I cannot assure you will not miss it, we know that this N8 has shown a great potential. It also has a bunch of manual settings: ISO (although rather limited - only 3 options), contrast, saturation, sharpness,etc...
Besides that, youīre getting a pretty decent smartphone with all the goodies (and the few baddies) that Symbian has.
Just bear in mind that it may not be as good as an iPhone 4 in the smartphone department, but thatīs a compromise I can live with...
I only regret two of its desing flaws. THE ABSENCE OF A FLAT SIDE SURFACE and THE ABSENCE OF LENS COVER.
The first will render it rather unusable for longer exposure times (provided you do not have a tripod), as one will mostly not be able to leave it standing still over a flat surface.
EDIT: Although it doesnīt have flat side surfaces, it DOES have flat up and down surfaces. They may be helpful, but not that much.
The second flaw is mainly not due to potential scratches. Rather, the main problem here will be its lens getting dirty with time. We donīt have a cleaning cloth at our reach all the time, and that dirty can really spoil a great shot.
Greetings!

wow, now those pics in that link look amazing.
its crazy, even at full size, you still see detail and minimal distortion.
the 16:9 8MP shots are very nice
and it looks like those night shots were taken on Auto scene and just point and shoot as well, no tripod or anything.. which is also very impressive.
For my C905 i would have to slow the shutter down all the way, and use a tripod to get a shot like that at night.
I think i am finally sold on the camera.. the only negative thing i keep hearing is how bad Symbian^3 is..
EDIT: oh, i would i liked it to have a video light as well.. my video light on my C905 has come in handy for various tasks in the past, but i think i can live without it.

Well, I can only speak for myself, but I reckon that this new S^3 should be a good incarnation of Symbian. Besides owning a Satio, Iīve also had a Nokia 5800. I can assure you that the 5800 with its most recent firmware (version 50.something) feels very zippy for the general day to day usage.
If one can stand trading off a spectacular camera module for a supposedly modern smartphone platform like Android or iOS, than the N8 might not be the best bet.
Not my case, though. I am saving for it right now. I hope it doesnīt let me down.
Hereīs a good hands on video of it:
