So why does Europe get shitty version??

Both Ion and S have same camera module. The only reason Ion pics seem better could be that the phone was a more recent prototype and the S an older prototype. You have to remember these are all prototypes and the final product will have improved PQ over these.

yea .. not concerned about image quality until there are final versions to test and side by sides under standard test conditions. it simply varies too much with firmware version, test conditions, and photographer to make any real comparison now. though the phonearena test with the ion is decent. they look pretty good to me. at least, as good as i would expect from a phone camera

Well to be frank the camera performance is pretty good. Phonearena sample pics show that camera can hold its own against even dedicated point and shoots. The final retail models will have the best camera on an Android device yet.

Did anyone noticed that the camera interface has manual ISO control?

didn't notice, but that sounds great to me!

I love how people criticize images at 100% size. how many people print their camera phone photos at 100% size? even dedicated point and shoots have noise at 100% size and they don't have half the capabilities of a smartphone.

I just don't understand.. but i guess it just comes with the territory. no one is ever happy and there's always someone to criticize and complain about

I bet if the Xperia S made espresso and printed legal currency, people would complain the espresso wasn't very good and the money "didn't feel right" .

Now I have had chance to see them shots on my pc not my phone. I am not exactly blown away. Looking at them full size & with it being very bright indoor lighting there is still alot of noise & I see the N8 is better than these imo

What bothers me is that this year HTC's flagship may surpass S in photo quality. Sony's pursuit for industry smallest photocells and (probably) SE lack of investments in camera drivers in recent years make these exmor-R matrices almost useless:(
