What else smarty? How about a MMC? What about mp3? (we're excluding smartphones from this). I actually think that the inbuilt radio is a very handy and sought after feature.

Its probably one of the main reasons Nokia has so many customers. Maybe SE should think about it- whadya reckon?

exclude smartphones from this, and Nokia has nothing to offer either.

We are excluding smart phones- thats what I said only a few posts ago. Notice the title of the thread- its about the 6230.

Hey by the way- do you diehards think the 6230 seems like a good phone?

a bit contradictory, excluding smartphones from a discussion about a smartphone. but we'll let that pass.

the 6230's features are certainly good.

although i would have prefered an SD drive instead of an ancient MMC one.

also, i would prefer a less funeral-like design - there's a difference between classy/understated and gothic/morbid.

oh, and a more robust [and 'open' - think Quickshare] operating system - the Nokia interface pales in comparision to, for example, the T610's.

so all that's good about the 6230 are its features. those are just the bits and pieces. in the 6230's case, the sum of the parts is certainly far greater than the whole.

Well- some decent conversation..
Although the 6230 has pretty advanced features, I dont think it comes under the category of 'smartphone'.
Thus the above comment that it is not a smartphone.

Too bad there's not a category of 'dumbphone' for a few models I can think of.

the 6230 runs on Nokia's Symbian Series 40, if i'm not mistaken.

and it has all the features of phones belonging to the smartphone catergory [7650, 3650, etc].

hence, i do believe it is a smartphone.

Series 40 has nothing to do with Symbian. The 6230 runs on Nokia OS. It lacks Symbian's most significant features, application multitasking and almost unlimited access to the phones resources. That's the difference between normal phones and smartphones. Remember how the 7650 didn't have video recording by default? A 3rd party application was developed by modifying the camera and voice recorder software to make it possible. That's smartphone. Series 60 (7650, 3650, 3600, N-Gage, 3660, 3620, 6600), Series 80 (92xx) and Series 90 (7700, the next Communicator) are Symbian phones.

The 6230 adds great features to a normal phone. But from a programming/software point of view, it's still a normal phone.

trying to title the 6230 a smartphone so that it can't be compared to SE T6XX ain't gonna work.
