No tom tom isn't supported-yet, yes you do get delivery reports (little d letter appears next to sent messages) and web browsing is ok, but not great (however using Opera mini it's as quick if not quicker and better quality than my N95 using HSDPA). I've been using blackberry's for years and they are the most reliable handset 3lve ever used with not one going wrong! Oh, PIN messaging can be used between any BlackBerry anywhere in the world (inc P2P file transfers)! :o)

Exactly, the 8700 & the 8800 both started that way.

I dunno about saying it's nothing they've done before, the Pearl and Curve were a bit like that really, the Pearl especially.

This just seems like a progressive upgrade rather than an overhaul of the brand or anything. It's still got the same layout, still has GPS and WiFi, still does e-mails very well.

Yes they've added 1GB memory, but if Nokia can do 8GB on their other phones this is hardly record breaking.

Don't get me wrong, it's really nice, and a good upgrade from my Curve in 9 months or so, but it's not 'ground breaking' really, hence why I can't see why their seperating it from the rest of the branding.

First off why does EVERYONE compare hardware & markets from differing manufacturers as the same? Nokia has specific devices to compete with the Blackberry.

Daedalus85, you may or may not have a BB, but I think you're from a consumer perspective/less informed corporate user. You fail to see many things of RIM & BlackBerry.

* Security, Efficiency, and extensibility is TOP priority; along with speed as well.

* Nokia has NOT made 8GB in the E61/E62/E62i or E50/E51i models. The N81, N95 with 8GB imbedded options BOTH do NOT allow expandable memory, the N96 with 16GB does. But i'd rather have expandable flash in today's technology since currently imbedded flash on phones is NOT faster than MicroSD speeds - and at 8GB or higher costs WAY too much. Nokia is a worldwide MASS market manufacturer with various production warehouses. RIM only has 1 location to manufacture their phones ... Ontario, Canada. Texas USA goes live soon.

THe brand HAS been overhauled.

* No other model offers WiFi, GPS, and camera & imbedded memory in 1 device! Thats the Curve & 8820 rolled into one & much more.
* MUCH faster cpu; applications & radio on one die; the Xscale they've used for the past 3yrs was already 1yr old when they got locked into that contract with Intel before the sale of that chip design occured.
* The OS is completely overhauled: HTML Email is imbedded (3rd party apps offerd this prior, only the newer 8130's have this but not supported in BIS/BES currently - BES 4.1.4 has it but its turned off and not stable nor does it work properly).
* Organization of Network diagnostics (WiFi or Network) is MUCH easier & faster to get to from main screen. Great for TS.
* Ability to turn off 3G.
* Oh sorry 3G is there ... use your phone as a modem and STILL get your emails, make phone calls. Do the same directly on your BB. Send or receive/emails, make appointments while on conference call (voice), or do it over VoIP/UMA, in the USA, Europe, Asia, South America ... no limits man THAT is HUGE! This was a BIG hammer that WM had over BLackberrys.

BTW, @ Walrus, if you're on BES ... be careful with p2p over PIN. PIN's can be logged & tracked on the BES since v4.1. But you ARE correct BB's are SOLID, rarely hardware issues and quick TS is easy to find that. Firmware upgrades or downgrades are VERY quick and ALWAYS supported at RIM/provider! BEST in the business.

I feel like a total FOOL for leaving my BB contract. But when this 9000 comes around bye bye K850i ... that'll be my backup phone for sports & vacationing.

* Watching CNBC channel today pissed me off. I HATE UNINFORMED analyst, trying to sound like their in the know. Some lady was saying a new company was making software & trying to get contracts to have their software inbedded into regular cellphones - users worried about lost phones and data being easily hacked from memory cards, since 80% of US employees use personal cellphones. She mentioned that she carry's a BB & a regular cellphone but didn't say why, NOR did she know that on the 8100/8300/8800 series models (all the models with MicroSD card support) that those cards CAN be encrypted NOT just at the corporate level but Also the USER level. Pissed me off, because she didn't do her research properly.

bavlondon - I have had all manner of phones, nokia, SE, Samsung, Iphone and I can honestly say my BB is the best thing I have had. Mine is my personal one, I run a windows phone for work but the BB wins hands down. Take the plunge, you wont regret it........!

Hi Bav,

The only thing that kept me away from BB's was the lack of 3G/HSDPA and Wifi all on one device, with the Bold all these issues have been addressed and then some.

From what i have read and someone correct me if I'm wrong you can use a BB for personal E-Mail it doesn't have to be just corporate E-Mail running on a company server.

I will definitely be looking into either the Bold or maybe even the new Touchscreen BB which will be a Voda exclusive before deciding which one suits me best. But these two devices i find far more interesting than anything else so far announced by a long way.

Hi Bav,

You know what they say though once you go Crackberry you never go back to anything else!. I must admit the video of the Bold even though it isn't a final release firmware looks mighty impressive no lag or or freezes or delays that i could see. Not sure the Touchscreen version is really for me or not but comparing both the Bold and Touch screen versions with recently announced devices from other manufactures these really impress a lot more IMO.

Ha ha yeah I have heard many say that.

I like the idea of a touch screen one but im heavy on message so i need proper tactile keys. The Bold looks awesome in theis respect. Dont get me wrong i love my ipod touch but this seems to tick all my boxes.

I just registered over at crackberry aswell. You should too! I laid a few questions out I have i the hope Kevin can answer them.

But yeah as you say the OS looks amazing. I have always been semi tempted in the past but little things like WIFI and a camera have always held me back, not any more though.

Looks like I will have to take out a BB data plan when I get one of these but I dont mind spending a bit extra as I will have unlimited email and data so play with. Ive always wanted push email but my phones in the past just didnt have the battery to cope.
