Tbf, there isn't much you can improve hardware wise with the odin and yuga, except maybe a higher ram, better quilty screen and camera and a better battery.

Quad core, FHD screen, 13 mp I think are stuff that reached their limit, making it even higher will just be plain stupid.

Sony Xperia U’s Jelly Bean update to arrive in early December?
It was only quite recently that the Sony Xperia U made the jump from Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich, but now we’re already hearing reports that Sony is preparing to upgrade the phone to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

The first one came from an unofficial source, which claimed that an insider has spilled the beans on the Jelly Bean update for the phone. Apparently, the Xperia U, as well as the Xperia Go, Sola, and P, will be getting Jelly Bean in December.

All other rumors about the timing of updates seems to be incorrect so dunno if I believe this one

I wouldn't get hopeful about anything until you hear it from the horse's mouth.

As for other OS, at least for 2013 there be no non android sony smartphone.

Kinda sad, but expected. Vita OS is not nearly mature enough to support a smartphone. Too many functionalities are missing (for example, lack of folders or orientation in the OS or browser), web browser, while improved, is far behind smartphone ones. And that's not even mentioning the paltry app store it has. If PSMobile thing is real and sony is serious about it, they can improve their app store quickly and get a real ecosystem, getting apps ported from android and iOS store while at the same time improving the vita OS and browser to smartphone standard.

What they could do in 2013 is release a 7-10 in tablet sku with vita os and market it primarily to gamers, therefore not getting hit too hard by critics and customers with the OS being a little raw or the app store being too small. I think something like wikipad (removable pad), but with a sony design would do great. Basically can use the tablet by itself to browse, watch movies, etc or to play small/touch only games, or attach the pad to play hardcore games.

Of course if sony chooses to go vita OS on smartphones and tablets, it'll have to do year refreshes on those and effectively in 3-4 years some games won't be playable on the original vita. I think it's inevitable though and the only path they should take if they want to continue in the handheld gaming market. One thing they would need though is to integrate their e book store with the rest of sen (something they should have done awhile ago). Also need to bring back comics store (released in japan for vita, so kinda expect it to come to the west eventually). And definitely need an MP3/Music Video store to tie with their music unlimited radio service (like the song you're listening to, click the button and buy it now). All major ecosystem OSes have an MP3/Music Video store (Apple, Google, and MS now that they launched Xbox Music). Sony would need that as well.

I think Sony designed WP8 is out of the question unless surface and other windows phones start selling really well and Sony can't miss the boat. They said they are keeping an eye on it and I believe it's for that reason, I don't think they will release a WP8 device otherwise. I doubt sony wants to pay MS the windows royalty fees. Remember that on android fees MS went after everybody except sony (presumably due to the amount of patents sony holds).

Korea Times: LG's first in-house chips will launch at CES 2013

Sony needs to to do the same or have Ericsson make it for them . Relying on Qualcomm will not make them # 1 Android manufacturer.
