So Z wil be in a similar position to TX with some units apparently having a different screen and one of them being obviously better than the other?

Not good really. This is something they should pay more attention to and make sure if they are sing different suppliers then at least the quality is the same.

Who knows. I highly doubt any Sony reps will directly answer questions about screen suppliers so unless we get someone with inside knowledge to clarify, or if we can get more phones tested like that guy on XDA did, we'll never know.

If his methods are good for telling the screen on the phone, I suppose using a larger sample of various phones would be the easiest way of determining if there are different screens at work here.

sony is screwing up an amazing phone only for not to be clear with what type of screens are using. Exactly the same case with the first batches of Xperia S, or different screens of Xperia TX and V. Same old problems.

First screenshot of Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean for Xperia Z

What you can see below is the first screenshot of the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update for the Sony Xperia Z (C6603). It was sent to us by an anonymous tipster with some of the baseband and kernel details understandably masked. It shows us that the Android 4.2.2 JB update will have firmware version 11.1.A.1.450. However, we are told this is a beta version, so expect the firmware version number to be in the form of 11.1.A.X.XXX by the time it is released.

It uses a new 3.6 kernel, compared to 3.4 kernel of the old Android 4.1.2 firmware. Best of all, we are told that the official release for this Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware will take place at the end of March in Europe. Obviously none of this is official information so take it with a pinch of salt, but if Sony does manage to upgrade the Xperia Z a month after release many customers will be very happy indeed.

I think the best thing to do is to wait till the Z is out, then go out and see it in action. If it's good enough, it gets your money. I don't think the screen could be worse than the S if tested under normal conditions. Contrasts etc equal to the S is good enough for me
