I the next 12 months all flagship phone will be without the 3.5mm jack. I don't understand why people are so resistant to accept the fact that technological advancements lead to hardware changes.
Live with it or buy a phone with a 3.5mm jack which will not be a flagship phone.

To be honest, though it is good to have 3.5mm Jack, I would much rather have my headphones plugged directly into the USB jack. Currently, it seems that USB is much more capable of driving headphones than 3.5mm jack.

Its' not. More - it's another variable. With USB audio you're not using phone's DAC but the one in your headphones. In short - you need to buy expensive headset with good DAC inside to enjoy your music, flagship phone is not enough anymore.

Getting rid of the jack for the sake of what? You won't see bezels disappear or battery size increase so I see no harm in keeping it. You can't force people to adopt a new technology either. This whole thing about moving the FPS to the back is something I don't like but it could be worth it if they can squeeze more screen.

And what exactly is that technological advancement you are talking about? It's not like there is a new more advanced standard to replace the good old 3.5mm jack. Neither Bluetooth nor usb type c can replace the old standard. And that's the point. If you are replacing a standard it should do a better job and not the same or even worse.
To all:
Regarding sound quality: I have been using Sony Walkmans for years now since I was never satisfied with the audio quality of smartphones. But since I got my hands on a Redmi Note 4 along with xiaomi piston headphones I was amazed about the sound quality! It's so good that I stopped using my Walkmans as my daily drivers even in the gym. I usually hate it to carry a big smartphone during work outs but the audio quality is so good that I'm getting along with it. It's a budget device but has the best audio among all smartphones I used.

Still can't believe Sony is doing away with the headphone jack even though the info is almost certain. Maybe there is a slight chance.

I guess I can remember there's some article said that SONY will not remove the 3.5mm from Xperia.
But oh well...

Hope they are able to shrink the bezel and continue 3.5 and real dual SIM with micro sd card slot with good sunlight legibility display on top of whats previous attributes.
But if they dismissing 3.5 Jack, lets hope they fully strengthen the USB type c port connection because it will get stressed even more so.

^ so are you saying the headphone jack is the only reason keeping you from going to other OEMs... who coincidentally, don't have a headphone jack either? interesting
granted, i would hate for them to remove their headphone jack. i use mine quite often.
Samsung? LG?
Both still offer headphone jacks. Heck LG offer that unnecessary, but amazing quad-DAC powered headphone jack.
So, I mean. There are other OEM's to choose from.
