@ares

As far as I know Sony Ericsson has a contract with TexasInstruments.
So my first thought was the incorporation of the OMAP-3 generation.

But...

There seems to be a coherence between Qualcomm and the simultaneous replacement of the two components: CPU and the GPS-Chip.

Ever heard of the Snapdragon Platform?

Enjoy

This isn't future sound, it's reality right now. This chipset is being shipped already

Ok sliderse,
I got your point.
What I'm just saying, is that it's still guessing.
And your friend probably is not allowed to speak anyways, and if he speaks - it's also a rumour. SE will not make a leak and it's a secret. So, if we assume that the announcement will not be too soon, we know nothing about the facts.

@m-one

Good point.Different manufacturer(not TI) makes sense.TI have more "barebone" chipsets(sorry but thats the word) that require more money for R&D AND take more space on the board(due to much more external components).SE aim at slimmer devices than the competitors.In fact,I've thought of that too,but didn't want to write it in the first post as I wasn't familiar with the Snapdragon platform.Now I'll add it as a possibility.

And about the question why I wrote P5i won't be out till May/June,that was because OMAP3 Series would require more time to implement and they are not shipped yet,so more time for R&D and lack of shipment are the main reasons.

I believe Snapdragon will be faster to implement and the chipset is already shipping,so we may expect earlier release date for P5i.Thats pure speculation, of course.

@icaka

That's it. All modules on one small chipset - all in one

Since SE is concentrating on slim form factors and a clever power management the Snapdragon platform is the most likely hit.
Of course this is pure speculation...but ares did hear something about an Qualcomm solution - so this is the one that makes the most sense

First post updated.

Well BOM will be lower if Snapdragon is used.

The possibility of a Qualcomm chipset was discussed over M-R,but there wasn't any specific info(nor insider info).

I don't know if Snapdragon is with better power management than OMAP 3.OMAP 3 series are said to have very good power management,better than OMAP 2 series have,but the external components raise power consumption for sure.There is the volume factor here - less components,more place for the battery.Less is more,you know.

EDIT: I forgot to add that December,12 is rumoured to be the announcement date by Eldar over M-R.Don't get too hooked up,considering the announcement history of SE.
When the time comes,we'll see.

@doministry
np man!

Btw,I found some interesting info about the Qualcomm platform.It appears that it has integrated broadcast support - MediaFLO™, SDMB, ISDB-T, TDMB, DVB-H with QUALCOMM's UBM™ universal broadcast modem solution.
It also has 1Ghz Scorpion processor with 128-bit SIMD capability,paired with 600 Mhz DSP.Snapdragon has integrated compass and GPS/A-GPS support too,VoIP with VCC,BT 2.0+EDR,support of up to 12MP cameras,high video-recording capabilities.

This is a demonstration of the platform gaming capabilities:

http://www.cdmatech.com/docs_[....]ech_demos/demos_3dgraphics.jsp

The Asphalt Urban GT looks good.
I think it will be better in the end,but its up to game developers,not the hardware itself(it has 600Mhz DSP and OpenGL ES 2.0 graphics support and everything).

Demonstration of 3D audio capabilities:

http://www.cdmatech.com/products/enhanced_audio.jsp

The demonstrations are in the top right corner.

Impressive.

But the thing that struck me is that it supports IEEE 802.11a,b,g,n featuring True MIMO™.Wow thats what we're talking about.

Interesting info is that "Samsung Electronics, a leading provider and innovator of mobile phones, will be among the first device manufacturers to leverage Snapdragon for future devices."

Good for them.

I hope SE will use Snapdragon platform instead of OMAP 3.When I saw WiFi draft n support with MIMO I thought "Now I'm sold." (Yeah, I know TI support draft n as well,but not integrated in the chipset,so its not sure if the P-series flagship phone will have it.Just for info - WL1273 - http://focus.ti.com/general/d[....]QS=ProductBulletin+OT+wilink_6 )
