this is all very interesting, only because PK had to send his brick back for "OS updates", around the same time that reports started magically popping up about a processor upgrade. then the DEC 12th thing is like most dates around here, picked out of thin air, yes im calling ELDAR the GREAT out ... only cuz i can. did we not get information stating CLEARLY that there will be NO announcements till next year from the man who decides when each announcement has to happen (in london ...) why would he schedule an announcement not THREE days after saying there wont be one in 2007 and that the Nov. 6th was the last?
IF SE did change to Qualcomm (from the looks of things, now ill be disappointed if they dont use SnapDragon, it looks so tasty. but as they say jack of all trades master of none ... makes you think how well it can do all these things it professes.) they would need more than a month to announce it. IF they did change the board out from the "P5i" dont you think there would be a LOT more in house testing than beta-testers handling the product IE, PeterKay.
something doesnt add up ...
IF it was in Beta, to have someone like PK testing it, then the Qualcomm idea came in late. and that means that they have to start "anew" what i mean is if its a different architecture than what was being used, that means that it has to be reprogramed and optimized, granted thats what the time b.w announcement and release COULD be used for. however ideally no one wants an afterthought for their top tier "phone". i know SE doesnt want another P990. So we have a phone thats in a frankenstein mode of development (not saying i know how phones are developed but i do know how other technologies progress from idea to manufacture) and we have _NO_ information other than it MAY exist.
im not saying PK didnt have this phone, but damn i cant wait till he gets the "upgrade" if it happens the way ares and icaka are prophesying ... oh man, itll be a good day to be an SE fan!!!
hopefully they release it early 2Q, cuz i want GPS in a phone, its too clutch, and the K850 is missing that and WiFi. i hope the P5i represents the TRUE TECHNOPH!LE

Do you really think SE is developing or working on only one single hardware platform?

Snapdragon platform started shipping in Q3/2007, but there were samples provided long ago. SE decided to make a parallel R&D(which happens often) for both the platforms (Snapdragon & OMAP 3) and after the beta-testing decided to use Snapdragon, despite the performance shown is worse than OMAP3 (PK's proto) showed, and thats because of underdevelopment. So basically what they're doing now is finishing Snapdragon's development, not starting it.

Why is it they are choosing the one with worse performance?

The platform itself is on par with OMAP 3 and better in some areas. But the implementation is not good enough so it shows worse performance. Also, price tag is important as well as the fact that Snapdragon is more integrated than OMAP 3.

I hope the resolution is going to be 640x360 because I want the phone to be with 16:9 like in Japan enough of this old 4:3
