I don't understand how everyone got so confused on this when Random was very clear when he originally stated, many many pages ago, that it will have interchangeable lenses
like the iphone

Well I used the term "Interchangeable lens" as that is much easier to understand than saying "clip on lens"
But yeah, technically honami won't have interchangeable lenses but additional clip on lenses like the Iphone and the pic I posted of Xperia Arc with a zoom lens about a month back.
Also UnknownC151A posted description shortly after I posted the Arc lens pic, of magnetically attaching lenses for the V in Singapore.
Anyway, since the new RX100 II uses a back illuminated 1.0" type sensor could we expect something similar on the Honami? That would mean Honami would be able to match EOS/808 for low light performance even without Xenon and at the same time keep the phone thin.

Well. Xperia phones are not very popular in North America.

They didn't put effort that much, many complicated and dilemma situations with carriers
- carriers network differences GSM / CDMA
some hope on SoftBank buy out Sprint would help but as Shotakun mention earlier, Sony and SoftBank didn't even partnet in Japan itself. The last CDMA from Sony maybe Xperia Play with Verizon which was a flopped
- carriers taken over-control and bloatware
Sony didn't want too much bloatware integrated, and it create damages in carriers relationship, unlike Korean or Taiwanese that more compromised.
- latest move on with Xperia Z on T-Mobile, is quite interesting and I hope they can manage it right this time. (eventually it was release four months late from globally schedule)

I can confirm no Honami on July 4th. Honami will not be announced before August.

Hmm, I'm thinking most places are speculating that the July 4th event is for Honami and don't have actual confirmation.
I've been looking at the photos of the leaked phone and something still feels off. I mean, Honami has a camera sensor roughly 4x the surface area of the Xperia Z, but the lens is just about the same size. Can someone more knowledgable about this sort of thing answer if that should technically be possible? The phone being a couple of millimeters thicker might be a factor in that too, but is that enough to allow for such a dramatic increase in sensor size while maintaining the lens size?
I still do wonder if that device is indeed Honami and not the Z refresh.
EDIT.

Then that raises the question of wtf is being announced July 4th? It doesn't make sense to announce the Z Ultra again and the smartwatch has already been unveiled. The invite obviously refers to a phone with stylus capabilities.
So... either another phone that's not Honami or a tablet? I suppose it could be the Z Ultra gain, but really it makes no sense when it was already unveiled to the world just a week earlier.

What I assume from reading the last pages is Sony is going to announce Xperia Z Ultra and updated Z on July 4th and Xperia Honami at IFA.
