I think SE are good at taking thier UIQ phones too far down one particular path. For instance the P800 was great, as was the P900, the P910 was more of the same, then the P990 was one too many.
The M600 is getting old now and the P1i has similar styling but higher spec. I'm glad SE aren't going to go down the dead-end path which the P5 and G702 were taking them in terms of styling and functionality.
Perhaps this will leave room for SE to develop an 'iPhone killer'?

Exactly my point! Its a different category, one which according to
this thread may capture 9% of the Japanese market and is of much interest around the world. Its a category Apple has all to itself ATM and I for one think SE should be in there too.

If you talk about marketing and sales - yes.
If we talk about the product strategy - NO.
I would never like to have such a bull without balls (iPhone). This product lacks so many things and is intended for fashion mainly.
I want a fully featured smartphone, not something with great promises and many disappointments.
Pseries should stay as profi tool, which will never be a really mass-market device.
BUT if you talk about SE generally, I totally agree.

The TM506 and Z780 are not the same phone but rebranded. You can see it by looking at them. They aren't the same shape.
To be honest I don't care if the TM506 is released - Its for the American market only - But I think it will be released. There's no reason for it not to be. Just because SE cancels two or three phones doesn't mean they're going to cancel all their current phones in development!
TM506 I think it's Z780 just made for T-Mobile and we can check the phone name: TM- T-Mobile, like V serie made for Vodafone

No they are two different phones for sure. They may look very similar, but they are two different phones.

I respectfully and totally disagree from my own viewpoint. Walkman phones and such toys could be extremely good sellers but mean nothing to me, I would never have a shake feature on my least of requirements for a device.
I guess we will all have to modify our list on what is available to us but for me the starting specs of my smart phone would be around 3" touch screen, preferably a qwerty keyboard and reliable service options. (In all fairness, ever since my T39m days, at times it may take long but SE was able to either fix or replace my device without too much hassle).

Yeah, just look at their keypads. They are different. Not the same phone.

This will upset a few people but I'll say it anyway...
This from the first post in the Xperia X1 thread:
"“Our vision for the XPERIA™ X1 is to deliver a seamless blend of mobile Web communication and multimedia entertainment within a distinctive design,” said Rikko Sakaguchi, Head of Portfolio and Propositions, Sony Ericsson. “XPERIA™ is our promise to think foremost of user experience and to deliver the premium experience – anytime, anywhere, anything, with anyone.”
Sony Ericsson XPERIATM X1 – energised communication, the premium experience.
* Convergence of multimedia entertainment and mobile Web communication..."
That sounds to me like the concept behind the Apple iPhone - Communication, Multimedia, and above all, User experience. Therefore SE are thinking in the same direction as Apple with this new sub-brand. That does not mean that I think the X1 is like the iPhone, its not. But why can't SE produce a touchscreen phone with a focus on internet browsing, email, sequential txt, GPS, Walkman 3.0 and add the stuff the iPhone needs like Video recording, MMS and A2DP. A snapshot camera would be fine as this would not be a feature phone. This would fit into the Xperia brand well because the User experience would be the #1 focus as it is with the iPhone. The market would not be IT consultants and phone forum dwellers but people who are after a networking tool to keep in touch not only via voice and text, but via email, facebook/bebo and face to face via GPS. Probably women like my wife for instance.
