Nothing against the topic but AFAIK Opera Mini 4.2 doesn't have a Wi-Fi protocol, right? I got mine from the official Opera website.

Go to Opera Mini's Menu > Settings > Protocol. If Wi-Fi doesn't show there then you're not using the Wi-Fi connectivity. I know this because on the Bold it shows the Wi-Fi protocol but not on any version I have installed on my non-smart Java phones...!

On Bold and Storm (basically the same Opera Mini 4.2 running on their JVM) there is a "Wi-Fi" checkbox under the Protocol tab. I don't get this on the Opera Mini that I have installed on my C905 and Innov8. Pretty weird since I installed them all from the same source. Added info, when I try to install on an Innov8 it says the device is not recognized...
Anyway, sorry for an OOT rant.

What "internet globe (icon)" are you referring to?
Don't have it on my w995 (Asia version).
May be a regional modification?? Don't know!
Menu - Settings - Connectivity - Wifi - Turn on (enter settings)
On the upper icon bar, right next to the signal strength is the icon for Wifi.
It's a green icon that looks like an antenna top with waves emitting to the side.
That's Wifi!
My Wifi signal is pretty strong and fast (but can't compare to 3G since I don't use data plan) but it's dependent on connection and location if not at home.
Opera mini can be downloaded at:

@MrMojo: I think he means the one that appears on the top of the screen when you're using gprs/Edge...
