Great! Now they (s60 aka nokia) will have the full access to UIQ resources while SE dont with the s60. It trully horrible news

Maybe SE should try android os or develop their own mix of java-linux-flash based os.

^^as a matter of fact..the same OS will be used by SE as well..so invariably nokia is a greater loss because S60 in itself is a wider platform..

While this unification seems good, Android is still something cool for me i do hope SE would also produce Android based handsets or even make an android version of X1

Excuse me but what did you not understand in the sentence "To enable the Foundation, Nokia today announced plans to acquire the remaining shares of Symbian Limited that Nokia does not already own and then contribute the Symbian and S60 software to the Foundation."

Hmmmn, well if its going to take that freakishly long for us to see the release of a handset running this platform, then I will just hold out for Windows Mobile 7 (or 8, whichever is the one that hasnt got the same limitations and has a nice UI) to come along, I believe some time in the first half of next year. Then Ill just get whichever X1-esque device SE has out at the time, offering the new OS. I have a feeling that the entire point of that version of WM is to take away that techy/business/ugly and non-user-friendly feel it has to it. But after that it should be fine. Symbian foundation sounds like it will be far more restricted in development because its split different ways. I suppose it would have to be a very open platform for us to see much software diversity between, say an SE and a Nokia device. Im glad I didnt go for the G900 now!

"with common UI framework"- damnit, looks like its no symbian for me then, if we dont see something really good come along in this area, because wed be stuck with it.

Isn't that make nokia own symbian with their biggest share?

If they own symbian, they automatically have all acess to all of the symbian or the sub symbian(uiq and moap) resources. And i thik thats bad for SE, they can check the upcoming uiq project and counter it with their s60.

Funny how people are saying they'll avoid UIQ phones until this comes to fruition. Then if you're taking that viewpoint, you might as well avoid S60 phones too. So what are you going to do until 2010 when the first phones with this new platform roll out? You're going to keep your current phone til then? You're going to get a WM phone?

There's nothing wrong with the UIQ 3 phones, and you'll likely have updated (more than once) by 2010 anyway so I don't see whats wrong with it.

If this is going to take so long to develop, then whats going to happen between now and the time its released? Are the companies going to release no symbian based smartphones? Are they going to continue releasing them anyway on old software which is going to wear out soon? Hmmmn its a great thing Paris and Beibei we cancelled, and no wonder too, this was going on behind the scenes.
