I don't see it having any impact on Sony mobile. We shouldn't worry much about the ST-Ericsson restructuring

Sony applies for 'head control' patent to frustrate non-verbal communicators

The company formerly known as Sony Ericsson applied for a patent in 2010 that's yet to be granted, but you never know, one day it might wind up in a handset near you. Having recently introduced the "floating touch" Xperia Sola that doesn't require your hands to make contact with the display, the next logical step is to make the whole thing controlled just with the movement of your head. Wearing a Bluetooth earpiece with a motion sensor, you then map a custom motion onto a phone action, so shaking your head could answer a call, nodding up and down ends it and going from side-to-side will fire up an app. Designed for when it's not safe to jab at your phone (i.e. driving) we think it's a pretty neat idea, unless you're the sort who, even on the phone, nods in agreement to what the other person is... oh, nope, hung up again.

Huawei’s new quad-core processor tells the competition, “Eat my dust”; Benchmark scores back it up.

Even Huawei has stepped up its Game with "Huawei K3V2" Chipset. Hope, Sony Mobile takes a leaf out of it and tries to make a mark with the dual core A-15 cortex SoC's in the next half. More importantly want to see Sony with it's own SoC's in the future like Samsung.

A new Sony Tegra 3 device has been benchmarked

http://www.engadget.com/2012/[....]rk-with-tegra-3/#disqus_thread

It looks to have a 1280x720 display and while everyone seems to be automatically assuming it's a tablet, I'm unsure how they're reaching this conclusion. Unless it's something unique about the model number, I think this could just as easily be a phone.

I admit I would be a bit disappointed if this were the followup to the Tablet S and it has a screen with the same resolution. I have the Tablet S and while I love it and use it a lot daily, I would hope that the successor could at least bump up to a 1080p display.

actually it has 1280 x 800 resolution which would imply it's a tablet. the benchmark ran with a 1280 x 752 resolution which means the device was held horizontally and the missing 48 pixels were used for the ICS nav bar at the bottom.

for comparison's sake, the lt29i hayabusa ran the same benchmark with a resolution of 1196 x 720.

Bah, I mis-typed the implied total resolution. Yeah, 1280x800 would be it.

Now while I agree it seems likely to be a tablet given the resolution, isn't it possible it could be a phone with a slightly different form factor?

Heh, I guess I'm hoping that Sony would give a real advancement in the display of a future tablet. Ah well, I guess we'll have to wait and see what this is all about.

Since ST-Ericsson is up for sale soon and going by the numbers, its not going to take a huge amount of money to buy ST-Ericsson.
Could Sony buy ST-Ericsson ? If they do. they can have a big advantage over their rivals in the smartphone business with extremely competitive chipsets and other cellular equipment.

What do you guys think ?

Assuming I'm reading this site accurately then it appers that ST-Ericssons total assets come up to about 2.2 billion as of the end of last year:

Of course Sony is a much larger company, but I have to wonder if they have that much on hand to make a purchase like this.
