i bought 2 gig of ram for my desktop and its the ddr 400mhz stuff... currently i have 512 meg ram 200mhz stuff.... now my motherboard can take the 400mhz ram.... but when i swap them my screen stays black... do i have to mess wiuth anything in bios before i put the ram in? the motherboard must be going on 4-5 years old now, btu is a good giabite one
any ideas cyco?
before i go home tonight and mess my desktop up

Or do you mean it gives you the shell (text input) but not the windows-like environment?
If it's the latter, then it's because one of your config files has become corrupted. Something to do with 'Desktop x' I believe...
Ignore that last bit, I'm old and confused.
But I'm right, it's something to do with a config file (ahem)...
