Just to add my 2 cents on flashtool.
It is more difficult to use than the polished mass market PC Companion or SEUS, but only because there are more buttons and features and fewer pictures.
To use flashtool you do not need root or an unlocked bootloader, you can use flashtool with your phone straight out of the box.
The main difference between flashtool and SEUS or PCC is that the offical tools don't have extra features that on some handsets allow rooting and app pushing. Also flashtool doesn't download FWs from Sony servers, you have to find and download the FW file from xda or similar.
However, you are NO more likely to brick your phone than if you use the official tools.
Obviously, common sense prevails, use the correct FW, battery over 50%, don't unplug it until it's finished, don't try and format your PC in the middle and don't use your PC chassis as a fish tank. Except the fish tank, none of these situations are non-reversible.
If any one wants a step by step guideline in plain English (and maybe some pictures) on upgrading their T with flashtool I will write one up.
The region differences in terms of hurting your phone are non existent if the phone is exactly the same model i.e. LT30p is not LT30a which is not LT30at.
You can preserve your data with flashtool but it is not recommended in some cases (like this upgrade to JB) because of the difference in the android systems and certain file locations. It may cause instability. Within the same android version is fine, however.
The removable SDcard won't be touched by flashtool. Things like contacts and app data (including game progress) can be backed up by the play store and google accounts if you've set it up, otherwise find another way to backup.

A little detail that some might not have noticed: the Xperia T real "Bond Phone" is the silver version as this was the version used by James Bond in Skyfall. In my opinion, undoubtedly the best color for the Xperia T (I believe the T was designed with silver in mind, according to the design prototypes photographed a while ago). Btw, is the silver edition for sale where you live? I can't find it in Portugal. Only the black and the white ones are available.

Yep it's the official jellybean
but it's not hit all regions yet, like the UK
When it comes it will only be available through pcc or sus at the moment, you'll have to wait for the ota update.

Sean, I flashed mine from Three to generic fw, simply to get updates quicker as operator fw takes longer to arrive, if it arrives at all.

That's not entirely true, just look at the xperia s debacle with firmware updates to the UK generic models
pitifull to say the least.
But let's hope that Sony have learnt from that, fingers crossed.

I tried using Emma, but it says that my phone is locked, even though it's neither branded nor locked to a network. Do I need to unlock the bootloader?
