The SwissManager system tab in my M600i only shows 4096 colors. I thought the M600i screen could show up to 262k colors.
Do you guys get the same info?.
Thanks

@aloner: some interfaces (for example when you write an sms) shows a limited number of colours cuz you don"t need more that that to write it. Same thing happened to P910i when browsing thru the menus you had only 65k and when watching videos and pictures the phone switched to 256k to have a fine resolution. The permanent switch is needed to save some energy.

Hehe, I think it's from different reasons.
Anyway, the new version (swissmp) shows me 16M colors... which is again not true

Btw, the P910 migth used 65K colors not because of energy consumption, but memory consumtion: 65K fits in 16 bits (2 bytes). Any higher bit depth woul dneed 4bytes (even 18bit should be stored on 32bit for faster access), but that would mean DOUBLE memory needed for the images. So I think that's why by default it uses 65K colors, and only in special cases it activates the extra bits.

I believe SwissMP now shows 16 million colours because the phone does work in 24-bit colour. As in 24-bit true colour (RGB888 - 8 bits per colour channel).

Technically the OS is probably 32-bit colour space, to support alpha transparency. But even 32-bit is RGB888 + 8 for alpha.

The actual LCD screen is 18-bit though, i think. hence the 262k colours displayable. That's RGB666.

When images are sent to the screen, some element of the screen or display chip dithers the RGB888 signal into RGB666 (from 8 down to 6 bits per channel). I think it might use a lookup table possibly.

I've just removed the pro version - I had my phone reboot when I plugged in the USB and (in flight mode) last night 30% of the battery 'leaked' away
