When I installed new firmware with the flip off, I read online somewhere else that you just use the letter "c" on the keyboard. I did this, and it seemed to work ok.

Does anybody find that the phone is more unstable in FO mode, or is it just me?

Hm, I think I will never understand the people that use a FLIP Pxxx phone without the flip.
I tried this when I first got my p800 long time ago... (perhaps for some the P990 is their first phone
but I found this phone has a flip (no matter if it looks bulky or whatever, the flip has real functions and is not just fashion statement!) and so I use that.
Nowadays we have many, many phones that come without a flip (so the flip would have NO functions and all works) the walkman series, the M and now P1 series.
If I would want a phone (candybar) without a flip, I would just get one that comes without a flip.
Its like buying a Sportscar with Spoilers (that are not fashion but needed at certain speeds!!!) and taking them off.
Anyways, for now I am hoping that SE will indeed come up with a true Pxxx with a flip ... successor, like a P999 or P1000

Having started with flip on for a long time I have now settled with flip off. The phone is a lot slimmer and lighter without it and performs well i.e no more open flip for mms and internet etc.
Also the comparison with the p800 flip off is unfair as the p800/900/910 did not have a querty pad or any other way of using the phone other than touch screen when flip was off.
I find the p990 unbeatable form wise flip off, as there are no real competitors size wise etc. other than the p1 which is not that much slimmer than p990 flip off.
